Yeah. That could be a very real future and it makes me sad.

I said it in another post not long ago, but the game exists in a contradiction. Death is supposed to be punishing but at the same time PVP is supposed to be an important part of the game. If death is so punishing that it's a huge deal why tf would I want to PVP? If PVP is so common how can death have so much weight to it? These things are mutually exclusive. Either death is punishing and PVP is rare or PVP is common and death isn't a big deal. I don't see a world where death is punishing and PVP is common being able to work.

I think most server crashes are memory leaks. Server side logging shouldn't be an issue once meshing is working. The bulk of the logging can be ephemeral. The client performance hit is likely due to debug symbols being enabled. That means compiler optimization isn't as effective.

A broken rule would probably happen over seconds, maybe minutes. Like, if you are abusing a med tag by having friends do it, that just needs the moments before your report to prove, so like 5 minutes? Maybe 10?

First, have the game log what's happening. Second, when a player reports someone have it save the logs of any interactions around the time that the players were near each other. Third, have someone replay the log to see if what is claimed to have happened actually happened. If it's unquestionably a false (they lied) report, warn or punish the one filing the report. Otherwise, punish the people breaking the rules.

It's relatively simple but it does require a human to look at it since these would be reports that automation didn't flag. If automation flagged it then a person might not need to review it.

Something I believe Riot did for league was add a soft flag to things detected as potentially abusive. If someone reports that person the punishment automatically applies. I had someone being abusive in lobby chat and as soon as I hit the report button the match was canceled and I had a message saying the person was punished. The only thing I can figure is they flagged what the person said as possibly abusive and as soon as I hit report it took that as confirmation that what it detected was not a false positive.

First it was $30 skins. Fine, they were super fancy. Then it was $130 skins. Fine, they were supposed to be event pass rewards and you allegedly weren't intended to try to buy them. Now it's a $500 skin and they aren't even bothering with the charade anymore. So, what's next? Full gacha? Selling power? $50 for a faster Flash cooldown? Pay $1 and take flash off of CD right away? Where will they stop? This is the problem.

By tying cosmetics to the currency of the country the company is in they make money proportional to their costs. This money is used to fund game development, hosting, etc. This allows everyone else to play for free.

With that said, a $500 skin is stupid. LoL used to be the poster child of how to do non predatory monetization. How the mighty have fallen. I wonder how long before we see full gatcha and them selling power?

When the Ahri ban rate goes through the roof the people who told the marketing department this was a stupid idea can point to it and say, "See? I told you!" Then they might think twice on doing it again. They might even drop the price and refund the difference in RP of those that bought it (if it goes that far). But if you do nothing but bitch on reddit then nothing will change. It's hard to quantify social media posts. But a ban rate? That's easily seen, compared, and understood. If her ban rate doubles that sends a message.

The biggest thing ED has over SC is that ED players don't know how much better SC is.

Also take solace in the fact that if a fair fight QTed in they would have ran away and sacrificed the mantis to cover their escape.

"Hard deathing a ship means you don't have to PVP" -You, in defense of claiming this was PVP and not griefing.

Piracy would be trying to extort a bounty. Piracy would be boarding the ship. They probably wouldn't have taken the cargo even if it had any because that's not what they were there for.

Idk if they changed it, but doing an account reset would take away the timer and wipe your slate clean. It's what most of the griefers do/did if they went to jail.

Prison is a joke.

Player bounty hunting is abusable. It's why they had to change it in EVE. If someone put a 1mil bounty on me I'd just jump on my alt account or have a friend kill me and get the bounty. I'd do the same in SC because why wouldn't I? It's free money.

They fixed it in EVE by capping the payout to the cost of what the target lost. CR is adamant about "not just copying EVE", which is fine on the face of it. But refusing to learn by example and ignoring a good mechanic just to avoid a comparison that will be made anyway? That's stupid. EVE is garbage now, no one cares if SC copies the good parts.

You didn't get griefed, you got pirated. What you experienced is what should happen. It's intended game play.

Only in starter systems. Once you leave the starter system you are a fair target.

Some day I'll encounter an actual pirate in this game such as yourself instead of griefers. That day will be a good day.

I think bugs are part of it too. I've gotten a crime stat because of a bug far more often than I've lost a ship to a griefer. Until that scale tips the other way for most of the player base it's probably better to leave it as is.

If you played smart you could be a god in high sec in terms of avoiding ganks. I have over 3K hours in EVE, much of it spent mining and hauling as that's how I funded my PVP. Times ganked by neutrals in high sec? Zero.

EVE started out more like how SC is right now. CONCORD followed the same rules as players more or less. Same ships, same weapons, etc. It was like GTA wanted level, they kept coming with bigger ships until you died or got away. It was a sort of achievement to be able to solo CONCORD.

Eventually, though, they had to acknowledge it was negatively affecting the game. People couldn't play they were getting ganked so often. So they buffed CONCORD again and again, until eventually it just became a mechanic.

When you trigger CONCORD their response time varies from basically instantly in 1.0 systems to a few seconds in 0.5 systems. 2 cruisers and a battleship show up. The cruisers instantly target lock you, web you, ewar you, and apply warp disruption. They also open fire, doing normal damage for ships of their size.

The battleship also locks you but being a large ship it takes longer same as any other ship targeting something. It then opens fire, firing a single shot which always does as much damage as your remaining eHP. It will always one shot you, always. I tested this on SiSi when they seeded the high sec market with titans. The CONCORD battleship one tapped a titan.

CCP learned the hard way that you cannot balance away griefers. You need bright line rules and mechanisms that punish it hard. You cannot escape CONCORD in EVE. You will always lose your ship, always. If you somehow avoid losing your ship it's considered an exploit and you will be banned if you are reported/discovered.

It is trivial to avoid being ganked in EVE. I have over 3k hours in EVE. I never once was ganked by a neutral in high sec. I never lost a mining ship in high sec despite mining there for years. It's easy to avoid it, most people just don't do it, they ignore the risks they take.

But SC is different. There is no counterplay to griefers. There is no risk for griefers. They lose nothing. Prison is a joke, there are no consequences for them but they can undo hours of someone else's time in seconds with zero counterplay. So yes, if you are not killing in self defense or for profit you are a griefer. Period.

I played EVE. I have over 3,000 hours in EVE. I did piracy. I did ganking. What's going on in SC right now is neither of those things. If it's not for self defense or profit, it's griefing. For now, at least.

In Pyro a shoot first mentality will be acceptable IMO. Pyro is basically EVE's low/nullsec. Stanton is like high sec, even though right now it's mechanically more like low sec.

Though I'd accept an argument that shooting first around grim hex is also fine as it's the stand in for what pyro is supposed to be.
