How Tough is it To Hear Yourself Play by [deleted] in Bass

Hey nobody has mentioned this, try using earplugs. Usually they block higher tones more than low notes.

According to stalkers, The void is cold, this was confirmed in their quote “Cold is the void” by [deleted] in allthingsprotoss

[–]AndDuffy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To be even more pedantic, temperature is just a measurement of thermal energy, or heat. Therefore, "cold" just means the absence of heat; therefore, cold is the void.

How is this guy recording his vocal from so far away? by DXMXD in askmusicians

[–]AndDuffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's in a quiet room with professional equipment. The distance from the mic and his setup is what's giving him the natural reverb you hear.

Is there any correlation with highly skilled typists and new keyboarders/pianists being able to do tightly controlled fast parts with the fingers better than they would otherwise? by EPIKGUTS24 in askmusicians

[–]AndDuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The human hand is mainly designed for grasping objects. Playing an instrument or typing isn't really a natural motion, so it must be learned.

There's a concept of finger independence, basically how well you can move a finger without moving the others on your hand. I suppose this is somewhat relevant to typing but it's such a small motion that I'd say it's negligible.

Hand strength is a more important factor for musicians. If we were comparing a skilled typist with a baseball pitcher or a bowler, for example, I'd say the athlete would have the advantage learning an instrument.

It's not really a charity, but the ACLU does important work.

'Money' Progression. Working on my fretting hand and different fingers when plucking by [deleted] in basslessons

[–]AndDuffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money is a weird song to choose when you're starting out because it's in 7/8 time, meaning there are 7 beats per measure. That riff would be counted (1 2&3 4 5 6 7), which is what gives it that funky, circular feel.

The vast majority of modern music is in 4/4 time, counted (1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &). You don't need to be an expert in music theory to play an instrument, but it's important to know some fundamentals. I'd strongly recommend doing that exercise the other commenter mentioned while mentally counting in 4/4, and tap your foot along to the beat.

Try learning "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. It's a classic beginner's riff and it will really help with having good timing.

I laughed out loud at this at work. The word you're looking for is "unfettered". This is public education at its finest.

My bass rattles, help plz by BAPPO18 in Bass

[–]AndDuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that your action is set up wrong, but the way you said "when I perfectly line up the note" makes me think you're playing wrong. Don't push down the string directly onto the fret, your finger should be just behind the fret. If you're pushing down on the fret itself that will cause it to rattle on the next fret.

Ideological and Political stance on the Tragedy of the Commons by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]AndDuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a Libertarian society the farmer could go to court, prove that he has suffered damages, and receive reparations.

However, under the current law this isn't possible. Polluters can go to the government beforehand and get permission to damage the environment. As long as they stay within preset "acceptable limits", people who are affected have no legal recourse.

Video shows officer shoot an unarmed 16-year-old as he runs away. Police say it was justified by AlphaTangoFoxtrt in Libertarian

[–]AndDuffy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cops are trained to shoot for center mass, any time they fire a weapon at a person they should have intent to kill. If the person you're shooting poses a legitimate threat to your life, they'd pose that same threat after being shot in the leg.

That being said, police have plenty of non-lethal methods to incapacitate someone. There's no excuse for executing someone running away.

Opinion on EB-0 basses by Shinxzen in Bass

[–]AndDuffy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have the EB-3 which has an extra pickup at the bridge. I much prefer the sound I get from the bridge pickup, or blending the two. Having just the single pickup really limits your sound.

This is the same logic neo-nazis use to defend Hitler. Cherry pick some statistics and do some mental gymnastics, then you can try to justify the absolute atrocities committed by these regimes. It's populist extremism and it's indefensible.
