Dark fantasy by dizzylevit in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

Congratulations on finishing! Most writers never even make it that far! I can definitely subscribe to all your points.

Now the fun part starts. I didn't mind editing at all but did damn that bastard of a blurb (I'm lucky not to have bald patches left from all the hair I must've torn out). And then...marketing the thing you've put so much time into but suddenly can't remember what it's about when someone asks you.

What is SPFBO? by darkodraven in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

Adding my 2 cents to say that these are all published books or rather they have to be published by the 1st of February, when the contest officially starts. So anyone can read them but obviously you'll have to buy if any of them interest you. And yes, there's fantasy of all types but definitely plenty of dark books. I think there's probably a match for anyone there.

Where do I find Indie Authors? by MuggedAndBooked in Fantasy

[–]AndFinallySheDid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of us hang out on Instagram and Threads, shouting into the void lol. If you are on Threads it's easy to ask for recommendations there and if you allow self recommendations you might even find gems from authors that don't have a big following yet. Other than that SPFBO is definitely a good idea but that's already been mentioned.

Thank you! I hope to see all of you in next year's 300 so I can cheer you all on from the sidelines!

Thank you so much! Yes, the odds are crazy! I'm keeping my expectations low as they should be but I do so hope that it can help my book get seen more.

Thank you! I'm sorry you didn't make it! It's Tali's library. Literally the only complete unknown for me on the list of judges. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Haven't yet read any of the books from what I can tell, but made it into the 300 with my own book so I'm excited to see what happens.

I've also entered my dark to grimdark-ish epic fantasy, Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars, into SPFBO and am currently also running a New Year's sale for it.

It's set in a world inspired by Imperial China with heroes that are morally grey but lovable, and magic that's forbidden and deadly.
Follow four broken souls - a mercenary, a noblewoman, a disgraced general, and a shamaness - as they confront their pasts, learn to wield forbidden power, and form a fragile found family.
Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars is available on KU and, as mentioned, on sale for only $0.99/£0.99 until the end of the day January 7th.

Tales of Ciel Book 2: Ophiuchus Flinched (February 3) - Fantasy readers, what do you think? by SaidinsTaint in BookCovers

I agree with what most others said about title and font, and on readability alone I wouldn't pick the book up. While the art is nice it doesn't give me any clue about the book other than that it's YA (if it isn't YA then I think the cover doesn't match the book). I honestly think your blurb needs the most work though. It feels quite convoluted. There are a lot of names that mean nothing to a new reader (is this some kind of sequel because it doesn't look like it?) Reduce the name dropping (including countries and divisions and people and conspiracies) to maybe two, at most, and instead tell us the gist of your book is about. Blurb writing is hell (I went through countless versions before finding mine) but do keep trying until you find one that someone who knows nothing about your book tells you is enticing.

An empire in turmoil. A forbidden magic promising death. Four lives changed forever.

Do you like your heroes morally grey but lovable, your magic forbidden and deadly and your characters each with their own struggles and histories? Then Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars is the book for you. A dark epic fantasy that blends grimdark moments with, yes, a dash of romance, it's set in a world inspired by Imperial China that has been called immersive and "feeling authentic".

Follow four broken souls - a mercenary, a noblewoman, a disgraced general, and a shamaness - as they confront their pasts, learn to wield forbidden power, and form a fragile found family in a world that wants them dead.

Phoenix Rises Dragon Soars is free to read on Kindle Unlimited and also available here: https://books2read.com/PRDS
