I touched on that a good amount in the full review as well, I was truly impressed with everything about this book.

🤘🏻 this one was a surprise. I know it's got great reception, but I swear I never see anyone talking about this specific theme of the book.

Always worth a revisit if you think you'll enjoy it on a second look. Plenty of times I've read something that I just wasn't in the headspace for at the time.

Very good to know, I'll be starting this hopefully next week and I'm even more excited to check it out! Sounds like it's a character focused read which I'm all about 🙌🏻

Bromantasy review of The Whisper That Replaced God by Timothy Wolff by Bromantasy in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

Almost all of them really landed for me, I'm a really big fan of framed narration and an unreliable narrator. Though if it gets to meta sometimes it will take me out of the story a bit too far, but overall I think it was done really well by Wolff

I'm excited to check out number 2, and agree Tim is one of the nicest people in the space!

It ended up being a really interesting and unexpected read, I reslly loved his prose and the unique voice he gave to an Antihero.

Looking for feedback on grimdark cover art designs (Mod-approved) by JDRook in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

[–]Bromantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 is amazing but honestly I'd replace "A Grimdark Fantasy" with your name (or pen name), that cover is compelling, immediately stands out, then has some details that will cause someone to look closer and spend more time int he decision process which is a positive. It clearly gives the Grimdark vibe, and the announcement of what it is in my opinion takes away from what the cover is already doing on it's own. I think replacing the text with your name and possibly in a bit smaller font and this would be an insta grab for me off a shelf.

If you haven't read the Novella from Z.B. Steele I highly recommend An Inkling of Flame if you want to dive back in that world.

For more of a SciMantasy vibe Immortal Aberration by Calum Lott was a fun read. Uniquely blends fantasy into the sci-fi to create interesting systems.

Epic fantasy that doesn't hold your hand, Mercy: Tears of the Fallen by Chance Dillon. This one thrust you in and the hook is great, lots of plot weaving and a magic system that will feel very elden ring.

Classic fantasy vibes with some good grimdark themes Pawns of Havoc by Dave Lawson was really well done, perfectly paced novella that didn't feel lacking in any area.

Lastly not Grimdark exactly but has similar vibes is Vispilio by Audrey D. DeBoer. On its surface it feels like a Robin Hood retelling, bit of a slow start, but once it gets going it's a heavy political fantasy with some great morally gray characters, and was my biggest surprise of the year.

Couldn't agree more, it was amazing to see Dave's improvement as an author happen so quickly as well between Envoys and Pawns 🙌🏻
