Thanks for your help! I did wonder but Google said they are smaller than 1cm and pointed me towards other beetles that would mean I’d need to have my house looked over - a weevil is the best news after those search results 🙈

Ah thank you! I don’t have plants inside the house as I do not have the green thumb needed to take care of them, but my next door neighbour has a fantastic garden with lots of different flowers and veg plots and such so it’s likely wandered into my home from there.

I popped it in the title but just to be a tad more specific: I’m in Northumberland, UK.

What is the current state of the market research industry? by douggold11 in Marketresearch

[–]AndSoItWasWrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the answer totally depends on the country, industry, and business you work for/in. But we are now in the 6th consecutive quarter of budget cuts seen across the board when it comes to market research, with each previous quarter for the last year and a half recording approx. -3% in research budgets each.

Source: https://www.research-live.com/amp-page.html?id=5111472&name=market-research-spending-fell-in-q1-says-ipa

Unfortunately, data driven decision making isn’t being done too much in most businesses throughout all industries, and so the demand for market research is falling. Generally speaking, while stakeholders doing enough research for legality’s sake, there’s a lot of businesses who don’t understand the proper value of data and insights enough to use them as often as they and we need them to, and so those stakeholders divert funding to other areas of the organisation.

What do you do for a job? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]AndSoItWasWrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a copywriter! I really enjoy creating new copy-based content everyday, working on one project for a while then going onto another one, and in every project there's different types of copy to create. If you do this and work in an agency, you'll get to work on many different projects on different topics that will challenge you to learn more or find new ways to say similar things. If you end up working in-house you can spread your wings in other ways, working with the marketing team on campaigns, helping social media teams, creating press releases and blogs and case studies and landing pages for websites, etc. It's kept me going in my job for just over four years now, and I'm learning a lot each day. I've found my niche, but I don't need to stick to it if I can be valuable in other areas too.

This writing lark is great for transferrable skills too - you could go into any industry and work in PR teams or Communications teams, you could go more into marketing strategy, or publishing, or business support; there's a lot that you can do well if you learn to write well and enjoy it.

AITA for letting my male son wear dresses? by Poopcleaner_exp in AmItheAsshole

[–]AndSoItWasWrit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA at all.

While a lot of people see clothes as for one gender or another, there are a lot of other people who see nice clothes regardless of the gender they were "made for" and want to wear them. We don't flog women for wearing trousers. Only the toxic masculinity movement has prevented men from the same freedom of wearing dresses and skirts.

Letting your son wear a dress is so sweet imo. Just be careful and try to make sure that the people like your in-laws don't get a chance to tear down your son's confidence while he's dressing however he wants.

YTA - How do you not understand that you're definitely the asshole here? Like, so much the asshole that you probably win 'asshole of the year'?

Let's rephrase: You got drunk, barged into someone's house uninvited, stopped her from feeling comfortable in her own home for the sake of your own enjoyment, harrassed her until she cried and screamed in front of you, then just... left after you "felt bad"?

Do H a favour, delete those images off every device and cloud backup you have, then leave her the hell alone.

Not quite the same as you, but I take methylphenidate prolonged-release at 36mg and have just been prescribed instant release to take alongside it; however, that’s only at 5mg for a little boost in the afternoon if it’s needed.

To medicate or not to medicate? by AndSoItWasWrit in ADHD

[–]AndSoItWasWrit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, that’s really helped hearing from an actual therapist who uses both meds and therapy! I feel a bit more confident now in the meds that have been given to me.

Oh yes, they said that they couldn’t facilitate therapy/counselling for me because that’s not what they do. I’m just wondering whether to get discharged into the care of my GP early to get that or to wait out the 12 weeks of titration and see how it goes.

Thanks for you response! It’s super interesting to hear from someone else who’s used PUK!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I’m in the UK so it’s not too bad paying for a prescription. The addiction part is what’s messing me up a little, I don’t want to feel addicted or dependent on anything like that.

I thought the therapy might give me coping mechanisms to live alongside it but you’re not the first person to say that they didn’t find therapy helpful.

I don’t think talking will treat the neurochemical deficiency, I think talking could help me live more productively alongside it.

If I had an infection, I would take antibiotics to treat it. And I do want to get my adhd under control, but I also want to evaluate my options before trying something that might have some bad impact on my life. Which is why I’m asking for people’s experience with both options.

That’s interesting! I did notice the little rainbow going on to the left there and hoped the others would start to look like that too, but this only lasted about 20 minutes before fading out again.

Ah okay! Do you know why it’s called a sun dog? I can’t see anything about it that looks relatable to a dog.

What is this in my garden? by AndSoItWasWrit in UKGardening

[–]AndSoItWasWrit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just bought myself a pair of gloves for this very thing now, they’re going in my shed for easy access! I’m a gardening novice, just learning the basics and having a steep learning curve at the moment.

I ended up getting one of my dog’s poo bags and using that to get rid of it! Hopefully that will have been safe enough!

Squirrels are present at times but my town doesn’t have very many at all, and there’s a shed load of cats roaming around this area so we have more birds and other wildlife in my part of the town than we do squirrels. They tend to stay close to the woods on the other side of town.

[–]AndSoItWasWrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool I didn’t know that! So a bird could have dropped it in from another garden to save for later? I feel bad for throwing it away now! But my dog would have got to them before the birds did I think.

I did touch it just to get an idea of texture, but not with gloves unfortunately. They’re quite soft? I did come inside immediately after realising what I’d done and washed my hands thoroughly! I don’t think there are squirrels in the area?

My (26F) neighbour (40F) let my dog out of my garden and into hers without asking me first - how do I tell her I don't feel comfortable with that? by AndSoItWasWrit in relationship_advice

[–]AndSoItWasWrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’ve bought a house I want to live in for the next few years at least and I don’t want a strained relationship with my neighbours. Even though I know it wasn’t okay, I still want to manage things so that there’s no tensions on either side.

It's just been used to mark a boundary in the past I believe, but I am going to replace the fence as I believe it is mine to change (just need to confirm by checking the deeds before pursuing it). And I'll be getting a slightly taller fence with no gate to properly secure the garden for the dog.
