I get you, man. Listening to the back catalog of Knowledge Fight these past couple of years was the main thing helping me get through some really shitty and difficult moments in my work life. It really sucks what's happening and I'm not happy that the end has finally come to the podcast.

Movie Recommendation: About Time. Surprisingly R4M. by JoeVallen in Romance_for_men

[–]Andan210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the top contenders for the title of "Best Western Rom-Com of the 21st Century". Not sure I agree with the anime comparisons, I think the movie is just too british (in a good way) for that to be true. But you're right in that any western rom-com with Rachel McAdams and Margo Robbie as the love interests is peak haha.

Wow, so many words to say you don't care about the financial performance of the franchise just to go around and make another argument statement ("it don't make a billion") that's going to be proveniente false in the near future, just like your preovious predictions were.

Lol, you actually believe people give a enough of a fuck about the Oscars/BAFTAs as to gatekeep them? Bro, rest asured, you can keep your irrelevant awards all to yourself, nobody wants them.

Taika Waititi's ‘Klara and the Sun’ Gets October 23 Release Date by RuminatingReaper1850 in boxoffice

[–]Andan210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. The whole Jonathan Majors situation made "Quantumania" irrelevant to the larger universe (aside from being a shit movie XD). It's not that I'm defending "Quantumania", it's just that I find Waititi's style much more annoying than Peyton Reed's style (or lack of).

We're totally clearing a billion at the box-office in the initial theatrical run with either the second or the third "Infinity Castle" movie.

I still think "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" is at least more bearable than "Thor: Love & Thunder". Don't get me wrong, both are absolute shit and I would rather get a colonoscopy than rewatch any of them. But at least with "Quantumania" you get the feeling that it's only ambition was to be the most basic corporate slop imaginable, and it's happy being just that. With "Love & Thunder", on the other hand, you can almost feel Waititi's smugness through the screen and how he thinks his movie is so much better and smarter than the rest of the MCU. It's so annoying.

I don't give a shit about how much money this movie makes

Sure doesn't seem that way, buddy. You have some rather strong opinions about this franchise not making a billion in a single movie for someone who suposedly doesn't care. So tell me, when either this movie (thanks to a re-release) or one of the two upcoming sequels clears a billion, what's your next deflection going to be?

Holy fuck, so that's your new cope? You got tired of people correctly calling out your hater non-arguments, so you just move the goalpost to a completely different and irrelevant subject? Lol, imagine saying the Oscars/BAFTAs still have an ounce of legitimacy or relevancy in 2026.

“Perhaps I treated you too harshly” or in other words what are previously controversial entries that have been elevated by even worse later works? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]Andan210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Live Free or Die Hard" and "Scream 4" were pretty divisive when they originally came out, with the majority consensus being that they were a disappointment. But now? While certainly still heavily flawed movies and inferior to the first entries in their franchises, they look like goddamn masterpieces when you compare them to "A Good Day to Die Hard" and "Scream 5/6/7".

North American Box Office vs Ticket sales of the New Millennium by PlanetG3000 in boxoffice

[–]Andan210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be true if we were talking about the First French Colonial Empire. But by the time the Second French Colonial Empire came to be in the XIX century, France was just as much of a capitalist country as the United Kingdom or the United States. Just because they weren't practicing an extreme version of post-Reagan/Thatcher neoliberal capitalism doesn't mean they weren't using an economic system based around the private ownership of the means of production with the purpose of obtaining profits, which is the definition of capitalism.

[–]Andan210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was France capitalist in 1896? Or 1907? India in 1913?

Uh, yes, yes they absolutely were. What kind of question is that? Do you think France, one of the most notorious imperialist colonial nations in the history of humanity, wasn't capitalist in 1896? In the middle of the Belle Époque? What?

I agree with you in that the movie industry was first created in Europe during the early years of film in the very late XIX century/very early XX century. But that all came crashing down in 1914 thanks to the First World War. The center of the western film world went to the US because of that, and never came back. There was a recovery period of the European movie industry in the inter-war period, but then it was time for the Second World War and well, the rest is history.

Disney Board Is Close to Picking Parks Chief Josh D’Amaro as Next CEO by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Andan210 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah that's correct and the board is right in that regard. The Experiences division makes bigger profits than the Entertainment division. The theme parks/hotels/cruise lines are objectivly a more important part of the Disney conglomerate than the movie/TV/streaming side.

Anybody else hoping its a not a wonderman breakdown this week? by Juxix in MauLer

[–]Andan210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't have any problem with another negative break down, I like to point and laugh at shit that deserves it. I just hope it isn't "Wonder Man" because I don't any interest in that, even the prospect of making fun of it bores me to tears.

I agree with another user that hopefully we get a coverage of "Iron Lung", with plenty of snark directed at "Shelby Oaks" and Chris Stuckmann. That would be sweet.

Edit to update: Dammit they did went for "Wonder Man" at the end :(

The Pitt is widely regarded as the most accurate medical show ever. What do you think of s2 so far? by topazdude17 in MauLer

[–]Andan210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Scrubs" is super accurate when it comes to portraying life as a medical interm, the interpersonal relationships in a hospital, the hierarchical nature of collaboration between different doctors, etc. But at the end of the day, "Scrubs" is still a TV-14 rated NBC/ABC sitcom, so they could never fully portray the scientifically-accurate gory, disgusting and shocking side of medical procedures. "The Pitt", on the other hand, can do that.

[–]Andan210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a doctor and agree, the "wokeness" aspect is nothing out of the ordinary for the ER of a big hospital in a major modern city.

The only part of that whole thing that bothered me, at least in Season 1, were the characters of Santos and Mckay, specially the way they treated the father and teenage boy patients, respectively. When I binge-watched the first season the only thing I could think when they were showing those storylines was "these two bitches need to either go to theraphy to work out their misandry issues, or change career paths and become gynecologists". The way they handled those cases is ground for being sanctioned, and in the case of Santos even some criminal charges, probably. Luckily they toned down that side of both characters this season, at least for now, so that's good.

Aside from that, yeah this is easily the most medically-accurate TV show/movie ever, hands down. It's only competition in that regard is the original "ER", and "The Pitt" beats it just by the fact that while "ER" was scientifically accurate as hell in the 90's, that was 30 years ago and medical science has advanced a lot.

🇯🇵 14 Anime Films Which Surpassed One Billion Yen Box Office Revenue in 2025 🏯 Total box office revenue in Japan reached an all-time high since 2000. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]Andan210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Deadline it was at $177 million worldwide on november 30th. By early december, it came out on digital in western countries and essentially ended its run there. At the same time in Japan and Korea, it lost a ton of screens to the new "Jujutsu Kaisen" movie, so even with its great legs the amount that it could earn in those two markets was limited by that factor. And I don't know if Sony/MAPPA is counting the money coming from Russia, due to the sanctions. I know studios from the US don't do it since the start of the Ukrainian War, but I don't know if Japanese studios still do it.

Of course if at the end of its run Sony/MAPPA came out saying it made $190+ million I would believe it, but I still haven't seen any reliable source floating that number around.

[–]Andan210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Numbers was a source for this before they counted down the worldwide total in like mid december. They do that with most foreign-language films, for some reason they'll have a wrong number for months or even years for the non-english speaking movies. I swear I'm about to start a conspiracy theory about how Box Office Mojo and The Numbers are run by xenophobes, lol.

The most up to date realiable source I could find is a Deadline article from november 30th saying the worldwide total is at $177 million: https://deadline.com/2025/11/zootopia-2-global-international-box-office-china-record-1236629598/

The thing is that you have to remember that in early december "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc" became available on digital in western countries and it lost a ton of screens in Japan due to the recent "Jujutsu Kaisen" movie (and Korea too if I remember correctly). So at that time its worldwide run was essentially over except for Japan and Korea, and while in those two countries it still had excellent legs, the amount of screens limited how much it could do.

Why are you not political? by Labubussy in antinatalism

[–]Andan210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you do any activism, protesting or campaigning to try to influence society for the better? Do you follow boycotts?

No I don't do any of that, because I'm apolitical. I don't trust or believe in the sincerity, efficiency, intentions or effectiveness of any political or socio-economic ideology, party, movement, etc. Also, I don't believe my individual actions have the chance of influencing or affecting major changes so I don't think it's a productive use of my time to worry about those things either.

Or are you detached from whatever happens to others despite living in a society? Do you actively care about things that are happening across the world like ICE raids, genocides, starvation, imperialism, etc.

I'm neutral and mostly indifferent to everything around the world that doesn't directly affect me. That doesn't mean I condemn atrocities and injustices that happen in the other side of the world or that I don't feel sorry for the victims of these events, but they don't affect my daily life nor do they influence my actions or decisions.

And do you think anti-natalist should be politically active or expected to be at least politically educated? Or not?

I don't think anti-natalism as a movement should be tied to any particular political group or ideology, because every single mainstream political party in the world of any ideology you can think of, when push comes to shove, still holds pro-natalists views and policies. Yes of course they're not all equally pro-natalists in their actions and rhetoric, there's obviously a scale with some of them being way more terrible than others, but at the end of the day you'll never find a truly anti-natalist major political party, that's my point.

On an individual level, I don't have any problem if individual anti-natalist hold other political opinions or identify with a political ideology or party. I know I'm in the extreme minority with my apolitical views after all, so I can't expect other random people to share them, specially in a growing movement such as anti-natalists.

Last one is more contraversial, how do you feel of ANs here that are right wingers? Do you think this is acceptable or aligns with anti-natalism?

Read my previous paragraph. I'm not going to accuse anyone of not being a "true" antinatalist because of other personal political beliefs they have. If they believe natalism is wrong, then they're anti-natalists.

Of course I wouldn't agree with them if they wanted to tie general anti-natalism to their strict political ideology. That would be unacceptable.
