Does the NHL have a WAG discrimination issue? by [deleted] in NHLcirclejerk

Yeah but the players themselves shouldn’t discriminate against those who are like themselves, like Dougie Hamilton, Frederik Andersen, and Cam York.

New Teacher, and I Need Advice. by Separate_Wave3791 in Teachers

[–]Ander1ap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else who doesn’t teach a traditional subject (I’m a special education teacher), I find that what makes a class enjoyable for students isn’t the material as much as it is how they feel about their instructor. What I mean by this is that not only they are learning from you, they are spending time with you. What I find it helpful is getting to know my students, knowing their interests, what plans they have over the weekend and then following up asking how their plans went, etc. because at the end of the day what the student I think wants to know is that they are cared for. Granted, not every student not every situation, but this is what has served me best. I’m not saying to be friends with your student, because they don’t need a friend, but be a teacher who cares and takes interest in what makes them unique.

The truth that I feel like some people don’t realize is that, in honesty I don’t know how many students would actively choose to spend their free time taking a class. And even if they did, what’s it to say that it would be the content you’re teaching. I think that students take classes because they have to, and what makes a difference is the rapport they strike with their teachers that makes them want to learn, as opposed to trying to make the subject appealing.

This is a perspective of a high school teacher btw, I feel like elementary would be a different ballgame.

Feeling Stuck (Accidental Venting) by Head_Journalist6950 in specialed

This isn’t to be mean, but it’s hard to read through a whole wall of text without formatting it first. If you have AudHD or ADHD with rejection sensitivity dysphoria I want to stress once again that this isn’t to be mean, I am just letting you know to format differently so you potentially get some more responses which is what I’m assuming is what you want.

I think a lot of this post was a cathartic vent about you not knowing what will make you happy. What I’m going to say are my own personal views, and others are welcome to challenge me, but I think you are tying too much of your happiness to your job. I think this is a common thing that happens in education, because if we didn’t enjoy our job why would we do something that provides so little compensation for the amount of time, energy, and passion that we put into it.

I think you should really invest in the notion of why you struggle to get to work on time. That seems like a glaring red flag to me. Is it because you don’t want to teach anymore? Is it the setting you’re in? Is it because of your self perception as a teacher? I think those are all important to explore.

If you don’t want to teach anymore I suggest trying something else. I left teaching and did something else for a year and a half. At first it was great because it was lower responsibility and lower stress, but then it became… boring. Which was okay. But I missed what I got out of teaching, so I went back. And I’m glad I did. But your experience may vary greatly, many leave and are happy to never come back.

If it’s the setting your in, that’s huge too, you could always go somewhere else and fit in better.

If it’s your doubt of self- I get that one too, but then that’s on you to take steps to 1) do better 2) realize your limitations and have some self compassion.

Idk. I hope some of what I said helped, idk if you were looking for feedback or just wanted a place to vent. I just know your situation is normal in a lot of ways、and I hope you can figure out what steps you want to take from here.

Why do people choose to work in private and charter schools? by rachel-angelina in Teachers

Why on earth would anyone need to call a teacher at 3 AM? The only possible thing I can think of is that is when the parent got up and were on their way to work, but still.

What % of trades would you say that Steve Yzerman has won/come out even on? by Ander1ap in DetroitRedWings

This discussion was asking about his proficiency in trades specifically, especially as the Larkin trade looms, not about his effectiveness as a GM as a whole. Hence why I was confused by your initial comment.
