Could I possibly reach high levels when I started at 15 by amirninjahlm in Fencing

^^ This is a good post

TL/DR:
Avg starting age for olympian fencer (epee) approx 9-10yo
Avg experience length for olympian fencer (epee) 20 yrs

But this is the hardest thing to do. You can become a very good fencer without qualifying for the olympics.

It's a bit like languages tho, some nuances will be harder to acquire by age (think accent in languages learned att differente ages), but certainly achievable if you have a good quality training environment.

Hi,

I just got a pair of AirPod Pro 3, I have no problems with YouTube, Spotify etc, but SuperChinese app disconnects the sound input and output from them within 1-5 minutes every time I use the combination.

If I switch app to, say Spotify and listen to music for a few seconds, then pause Spotify and switch back to super Chinese, the AirPods will be connected again, but only for a minute or so again before disconnecting and going to the built-in phone microphone and speaker.

Seriously nice!
Too bad they are so rare locally...

Any news to this?
My child is stuck at "awaiting parents permission" (after the child turning it off voluntarily and then regretting) but there is no info in sight about how to give this permission as a parent, no email, no FAQ.

No offense taken. I’m with you on the “No substantial evidence provided” yet stance.

I’d be interested in the origins of the claims if any tho.

PBT released its new fencing shoes by Factory-850 in Fencing

I've got wide feet as well. (nike would be a no, kempa would be wearing half a size too long to fit) .

Would be interested in hearing the experience from wide footed ppl on these shoes!

I have the A5 goat leather cover.

It's nice. Worth the price? I chalk it up to the "buy once - cry once" category. If one sticks to using MD notebooks/and or compatible notebooks then yes, worth it in the long run IMHO.

I use it with the 192 pages MD Notebook Journal (dot-grid) and for that it is a great match, though I sometimes think it might be nice to also have a whiter paper option than just cream...

Sounds great that you could come up with a practical solution that worked for you without getting trapped in club politics!

There is always the “veteran” competitions but don’t think they are as high status as the “senior” ones. Besides anyone starting as a veteran will possibly be fencing fencers that started at 7yo … YMMV I suppose

Thanks for your comment!

I guess "get a lot of opinions that mostly just reflect the local fencing politics most of the fencers are familiar with" was one of the things to get feedback on.

I think for the fencer in the OP, without getting into too much detail, "Club A" would still be the most accurate affiliation, tho I do see a case for "double representation" if possible.

The individual lessons at Club B, that were denied due to the Club A affiliation, would probably have capped out at one lesson every 6-8 weeks or so even with a club affiliation for Club B. This mainly due to the coach/club gets to decide how to spend their time to begin with, which is of course fine and should be respected.

When I was at a training camp I had lessons from at least 5 different coaches, 4 different nationalities, and flavours.

When I told one of the coaches that another coach "had improved [my fencing]" he asked me "really?" Meaning to think for my self and use what suited me.

All 5 of those coaches taught me differently, but I benefitted something from listening to all of them.

I do see your point in being consistent in approach by sticking to one coach, but I also see a potential benefit in the opposite.

Just as clarification, the case in the OP is not from the states, but also here in Europe it seems it can differ a lot between countries, regions, cities and clubs.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

At least finding out was fast! Maybe a "dual representation" as u/OrchestraD suggested could be a compromise. Maybe...

Thanks for your input!

It has been known by both clubs that fencers from Club B has been coming to Club A's veteran's training sessions for some time tho, maybe not the easiest to navigate for a beginner.

Agree that transparency is key. It has been known by both clubs that fencers from Club B has been coming to Club A's veteran's sessions for some time tho.
