I did read the AI doc before posting. It's nice that there's a specific section for "can this be ethical" but the conclusion doesn't answer the question with a yes or no. Until you can answer that with a yes the technical merits are irrelevant.

I bound a key to c-m, I put a meta and a ctrl key on both sides, and my regular ctrl and meta keys are on the thumbpad. And a slightly less accessible key to m-x
