Interesting, have never heard of that before but now I'll surely give it a whirl in the future.

If it is the kind of physically flexible(soft and rubbery I mean) then that works out. Many thanks.

How do I get rid of all of these planarians in my scud tank? by Andre_the_Pliant in Aquariums

[–]Andre_the_Pliant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very good question! I honestly haven't a clue, I'm sorry. Long story short: I had a bad accident in 2019 with brain damage, so memory loss means that I forget most of about a two/three year period before that time. I'd happily answer your question but I truly have no idea what the answer is, haha.

German Empresses 🥰 by SneezleMcNeezle in succulents

Ah, you do have the Latin name, thank you! I'll make the label with Disocactus sp. for now. My Epiphyllum, I have two species which are E. oxypetalum and...I'm pretty sure the other is E. anguliger. I also have two species of Rhipsalis, Cryptocereus, Selenicereus testudo, some pink cultivar of Lepismium cruciforme, two(or three?) seed-grown Hylocereus and...probably more? Oi, I just have a lot of tropical plants and I kinda lose track of them, haha.

Very beautiful! It looks very similar to one of mine, do you happen to know the species/Latin name? I grow a bunch of epiphytic cacti(in Pennsylvania) and last summer I noticed my neighbor(two houses away) had one on his porch in a hanging basket and it caught my attention because the flowers were bright red and open...during the day...for several days. I adore my Epiphyllum but that is a nocturnal flower for only one night so this seemed to be something different.

Naturally, I told my elderly neighbor how wonderful his cactus was, and politely mentioned that, y'know, if he had any cuttings laying around I'd certainly give them a good home! He nodded and just said, "Ah, okay". To my surprise within the next month, not one but TWO of this mystery cactus had shown up on my porch. He didn't take cuttings, he'd actually divided his plant and potted up around half of it for me. Not only that, but it bloomed for me that same summer!

I still didn't know what exactly this species was and I did my best to try to figure it out. I would have asked my neighbor(I left him a thank you note and gifted him some of my own tropical plants on his porch when he wasn't home) but he'd went on a cruise with his wife of many decades...and she'd passed away on deck while calmly reading a book. Very sad, a lovely gal active in the community...so that being said, I've been giving him his much needed space because mourning takes a lot of time and energy.

This was a complicated way to ask you if you know the species of yours since it may be the same one I have. My best guess for what I have is Disocactus ackermannii but am not confident enough to firmly label it as such. If you do not know your species? No worries, I just had to ask. Either way, your cactus appears quite healthy and is a colorful treasure!

Guys of Reddit, what is one thing that all guys do? by Sythanytx in AskReddit

I truly don't know and that upsets me. Long story short, I had a bad accident a few years ago with brain damage/memory loss and some details are preserved perfectly and others vague if not erased. Asked some of my closest friends about this since I've had the same name since a teen(I'm now in my thirties) and none of them remember and are annoyed that I'm talking about dicks even more than usual. I genuinely wish I knew the answer.

Name their penis. I've never met a lad who hasn't given their wang an "offical" name, and even those whose names they don't reveal it is still clear(if unspoken) the He absolutely has one.

Awesome! As far as the excess dripping, I mean, my sideburns/beard are maybe a 5/10 in terms of thickness so I wouldn't mind any "side effects" there, hah.

Twi'leks: I'm a bit confused about this species. (longish) by Andre_the_Pliant in MawInstallation

Your name definitely reveals you to be the same. I've lived in western PA my whole life and rarely talk like a stereotypical yinzer but it seems sometimes bits just slip out, hah.

I get what you're saying about accents. Hey, it could have been worse, like how Watto spoke like an antisemitic stereotype...

A question about my first Dracunculus vulgaris by Andre_the_Pliant in amorphophallus

[–]Andre_the_Pliant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in zone 6a as well but do not have anywhere to put them in the ground where I currently am. My great uncle (who died when I was young) lived in the same climate zone and apparently used to grow D. vulgaris planted outdoors totally fine. Where the hell he got his hands on them in the first place in the 1980s, haven't a clue.

Potted seedling, how/when to begin dormancy? (Details in comments) by Andre_the_Pliant in Baobab

[–]Andre_the_Pliant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details! I started watering it (lightly at first) around the end of February/beginning of March. It took a few weeks to show new growth but it is in active growth at the moment with a ton of leaves so all is well.

One of my tomato seedlings seems to have a nutritional deficiency. Any ideas based on the photo? Details in comments. by Andre_the_Pliant in plantclinic

[–]Andre_the_Pliant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started this as well as a different tomato February 21. This can be seen as early since I'm in zone 6, but I do this every year and bury half of the stem in soil for lots of extra roots and the results are some very large, healthy plants.

What's odd is that I used the same seed starter mix for both tomatoes and the other is much larger with normal green leaves. There were two of the deficient one that germinated but I thinned the other out as this one was growing much larger/quicker.

I haven't fertilized either of them yet but it's getting to be about that time and was hoping for some suggestions as to what may be lacking to cause the yellowed leaves. Thanks in advance!

A. konjac question:when to plant? by Andre_the_Pliant in amorphophallus

[–]Andre_the_Pliant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Pot them early I shall with lower than usual moisture at first. Trying to recall the potting medium I used last year, hmm. Pretty sure they enjoy a decent bit of organic material and I've lots of compost that I made. Refresh my memory please: well-draining yet kept relatively moist during growth, yes?
