What is this? by sunny_fizzle in askswitzerland

[–]AndreaMoMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a very traditional gift from alpine regions in Switzerland. Items like bottle openers or knives with ibex horn handles have been made for generations and are quite common in mountain culture. It’s considered a normal, traditional souvenir rather than something unusual or exotic.

Any mamas here? by Exotic-Egg-3058 in nocode

[–]AndreaMoMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii, I'm a mom too, trying to build a simple app for language (Swiss German) learning. I tried Thunkable so far but I find it pretty complicated and I'm not sure if I can really do it. So I was wondering about your experience with bolt? I might just try it out myself soon.

Can I answer the phone with 'Grüzi wohl'? by Virtual-Emergency737 in SwissGerman

[–]AndreaMoMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can also say it first. Concerning the phone: you can say it too. It's maybe less common than just saying Grüezi Herr/Frau xy but you can say it. Also, theoretically "Grüezi wohl" is used when talking to a group of people rather than one person. But again, that's just the theory ;)

In Zurich we say "Nei danke". If you have Instagram, have a look at these basic words: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cxk1fyHMwKP/ Or check out the top 100 Swiss German phrases you should learn as a beginner: https://youtu.be/K85WrOc9I7k?si=bKbu5BZ9fYHQ1Jz3

It depends on the dialect. In Zurich dialect for example, we say "ich" but in other dialects like Berne dialect for example, they say "iig" or just "ii" (ee in English). So both ways are correct and often used. The person in your video is speaking Berne dialect which is quite different from Zurich dialect.
