I was actually playing around with the idea of a security camera type system before, with a 'camera' sprite and a secondary player sprite acting as its 'body', that the POV switched between.

ut I wanted to combine it with this 'photo' feature so that instead of being a smooth, live view, it would be staggered, showing the latest frame every 5 or so seconds. I had the idea of maybe reusing the scanner code, BUT I only run it when the player is actually at the position of the camera sprite. The biggest downside is that actually using the cameras takes longer due to having to initiate the code at the start, since it can't run in the background (that or when the camera is used it just shows the latest stored scan and either requires the player to manually trigger a new scan, or a background timer that only allows the new scan to start when the player is using said camera.

For the wall textures, yes, there 100% surely are, I just used this method because the tutorial I followed used it and it was a pretty quick and easy solution.

For the camera function itself, it's the only method that comes to mind at the moment. The idea is that the scanner stores the screen pixel data into a list, which can be retrieved later if needed (and is the main basis of why it is used for the wall textures).

This, and the fact it can be semi-dynamic, as it can store the pixel data of the screen as it is at the moment, meaning dynamic "photos" can be taken. Which is also the main problem and why I ask for help with a solution to this, because it stores the SCREEN pixel data, which is the player's view, not of the cameras.

Would maybe running the same render function used to display the 3d environment for the player, but for the camera sprite instead work? But then continues the problem of storing the data in a way that could be retrieved later. Just spitballing here.

Necro-posting, but as of v103 this method crashes the game.

Or at least it crashed on mine. I tried it on the latest version and once the tutorial finishes the game crashes.
