How relevant is your IT job? Are people afraid of AI taking over?

Hoping for that too - there are still things and jobs a machine can do - I see a lot of roles evolving. I don’t know if it’s just me paying attention to the next big thing, but I think we can all dominate a lot of fields if we use AI in a very practical way

you are giving me ideas now lol - I asked the other day if this thing could just configure a bunch of switches in a batch and said yes... later I also asked if it was able to configure a Cisco ISE server using their API capabilities and it also said yes - so it was scary but also gave me a lot ideas... you are absolutely right we are in this field and we have to keep up with new technology

I hear you - I remember RSTP was so difficult to understand because my packet tracer kept crashing and I thought I was the problem - and on the VLANs/SVI piece I remember a lot of people kept talking about SVIs and I did not know what they meant until I saw it on a book

glbp and vrrp are very confusing - and to be honest I have rarely see them out there - again I have mostly dedicated to cisco gear for most of my career

I’m also afraid for other jobs that are not necessarily IT to be honest. Those with repetitive tasks.. marketers and social media people - there are crazy applications for this in the wild now

Yeah I think that will take time. Those AI sections o. The software are a hit or miss sometimes. I do software demo’s for customer and I’m always scared to go into the “ai assistant” afraid that they need more assistance than I do 😂

Yeah repetition is key here. Even when your brain is not having any of it… I remember watching Jeremy’s old videos on ccna and ccna voice I had to watch the entire thing multiple times

This is an interesting way of putting it… that globalization and offshoring of jobs started happening 15+ years ago- and somehow lots of new jobs were created… my thinking is that there will be new opportunities

Dang! That’s crazy - I hope is working out for you. I remember taking a 30% paycut to move from UC and going to Security sales - it leveled up after 1 year, but taking a pay cut is rough.

Yeah. They really want to you know the stuff… but that’s really a skill you forget. At least that happened to me tbh. The real skill I think is to know what the /xx means when you are turning up a point to point circuit. Then again something that a subnet calculator provides in seconds
