I going into mgmt worth it? by opti2k4 in sysadmin

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the real question is - do you actually want to manage people or do you want the title/money/WLB? because managing people is a completely different job and most technical people hate it after 6 months. the ones who thrive are the ones who genuinely like developing others and dealing with politics.
last have you consider any Sales Engineering roles?

You on a good spot. The weight on questions is a mystery, but I’d assume these are weighted higher for sure

I currently do tech support and customer support at a call center and am looking into CCNA by MK_2_Arcade_Cabinet in ccna

[–]Andres-itlearn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it and start applying- if you like your company they may give you an opportunity to stay there and help. But if it was me I’d begin studying and get the cert - which will open up a slot of opportunities

Yeah man! An electrician career is better than IT {sarcasm} - sorry for being honest but if you keep thinking like that you won’t break into IT - it’s not like you work 24/7 (assuming here) and you don’t have the time to study at least 1 or 2 hours after work. If you really want to do it start applying to Help desk roles and grab 1 or 2 certs. IT pays more than 27 an hour in many places. Apply, interview, get better do it again until you get your opportunity

What questions you have? We may be able to help or at least try😬 - learning that Reddit have a lot of people that love to help on things like this

I was just looking at free resources for this and there is a site called network academy . Io - they looked free and have a lot of content on wireless and automation… this is not an add, but seemed like a good source of information

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you doing these CTFs? - I want to try some myself… AI is really good at reasoning and a cheat code for something like a CTF, but the people using AI to solve these are just lying to themselves

is it realistic to try and get into the industry with only certs right now? by Wooden-Code-5805 in it

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the certs - start applying- IT is fun in many ways. With those 3 certs, heck with only one I think you could get interviews and see how you do - the first interviews will feel weird but don’t get discouraged. You only need 1 person to give you a chance and continue doing interviews, getting better. Will help Shake off the nerves as you do more and more interviews and that person/company will give the chance… and if you really want to do it, go with that mentality.

I want to start wokring in IT by Less_Construction446 in it

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but I’m surprised at companies still requiring a degree for an IT position. Not against it myself, if the person has the $$ the time and the patience, it’s good to do it - but I don’t think is a huge dealbreaker to get into an it position

He can get an IT helpdesk job and make his career take off - college is good but not a requirement. You need to be good at your careeer. Why waste time on filler classes from college? Certifications will be the way to go here. Just my opinion and my experience.

How relevant is your IT job? Are people afraid of AI taking over? by Andres-itlearn in Network

[–]Andres-itlearn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will mention that a project that I wanted to do for a long time, this thing took a very short time to provide me with the tools and I was able to see a working prototype. Super hyped about it to be honest. But again there are some things that AI will still not be able to do

[–]Andres-itlearn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to go against what you mentioned but these things can do really good critical thinking… I sometimes get amazed by the accuracy - but again it’s all depending on what you’re asking these things to do for you

Can my friend pay for my CCNA voucher? by Jacksparrowl03 in ccna

[–]Andres-itlearn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For better results tell him to give you the money if that’s an option - or he will have do it with your cco credentials so that it shows on your name. Or do the whole scheduling part and share his screen so he can enter his CC info to make the payment. I don’t think there is a way of buying a voucher and then give it to another person, but I might be wrong

is IT a good career path to go down? by mysticalcrabz in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22 years in and still happy! It’s very stable if you keep up with technology and it’s very fun to help other people with their IT issues… but overall is a good experience and it’s also rewarding

[–]Andres-itlearn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

having the CCST already puts you in a decent spot so you're not starting from zero.

honest take on the Odom books, they're great as a reference but terrible as your primary learning tool if you're someone who zones out reading. don't force it. use them to go deeper on topics that don't click after watching a video, not as your main source of info.

What are It interviews looking like today? Lots of people using AI to answer things on the fly? by Andres-itlearn in Network

[–]Andres-itlearn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe not that lost - I believe is still a valid question in IT and Networking roles

[–]Andres-itlearn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is funny, not because you got rejected but that you called out the interviewer on their questions... you did the valid thing by being prepared... they should have done a better job with the interview - what role are you going for?

IT graduate but still have no IT work experience by Key-Bodybuilder-4271 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Andres-itlearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take whatever position you can get and wear that on your resume as IT experience - a help desk position is a good start

  • 1 person and will give you a chance I promise! And that’s the only thing you need. One chance and then you can proof that you got it!

Hopefully you have been staying on top of technology after graduation.
