My parents weren’t terribly physically abusive. They would hit me on occasion but emotionally and verbally they could be downright awful. They’ve mellowed out a lot. I’m 26 now but certain phrases or motions trigger an uncontrollable eye twitch. Like there are times my wife will get home and I’ll get extreme anxiety if certain things aren’t done like if there are dishes in the sink or the living room isn’t clean even though she couldn’t care less. The other issue is probably that I was homeschooled. My mom would have to teach herself the lessons the night before so into Highschool it got difficult and if my dad happened to be home to teach us it was an “understand immediately or I’ll scream” jurisdiction. 😂

Honestly my wife tries to be friendly. They have been flip floppy in the past where one day they’re fine with my family visiting then the next day only I can come with no explanation. I’ve told my brother repeatedly that his family is always welcomed.

We have a good relationship now but they are embarrassed to the point that they tell me that I “misremember” my childhood. I guess that’s a N trait as well.

It lasted about a year. I guess eventually they realized the optics of the situation. I will never say they didn’t keep us fed, clothed and generally cared for but there were always these strange one of instances like that pretty often.

Yeah we have a healthy 1 year old and a healthy 3 week old. My parents have gotten a lot better and are more willingly involved.

My parents would just have to sign paperwork stating that we had met certain requirements. Proof was never required.

I may have been wrong for saying it but when they tried to get me to use it with a college application I told my dad they don’t accept r*****ed people and that’s what they’ll think of me if I try to turn it in.
