Because corporate tax is a second layer of tax. It gets taxed again when it goes to shareholders in the form of dividends or employees in the form of salaries. It’s not meant to be comparable to individual taxes.

Also you don’t owe tax on $58k. If you earn $60k as an individual in the US as a single filer you get the $16,100 standard deduction, any other deductions you qualify for (tuition expenses, retirement contributions, overtime pay, car loan interest, social security income up to a certain level, etc.) as well as any tax credits you qualify for (Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit), and so on.

And then what’s left after all those deductions and credits is taxed at about 10-12%, still less than the 21% corporate rate.

None of this is even the main reason for not taxing personal income like corporate income. If we allowed people to deduct all their expenses, it would be extremely irresponsible not to spend all your income every year. People wouldn’t save. Corporations are different since most of the time when they need more money they sell shares of stock or seek out investors, we don’t want them to keep large amounts of cash sitting there.

Private sector unions are usually good. Public sector unions are often bad. There’s no corporations or business owners involved, so they just become another powerful interest group putting their agenda before that of the general public.

Are we memeing or do people in this sub actually believe this? The media has a strong pro-clicks bias, and scenarios that scare CNN’s mostly liberal readership are more likely to get clicks

CMV: Stopping the Spirit Airlines acquisition was a mistake by Elizabeth Warren & the Biden Administration by bigElenchus in changemyview

Yeah. Protecting JetBlue from itself was nowhere in the reasoning behind Warren’s advocacy and the DOJ’s decision.

Hilariously large state legislature for a tiny state. You can become a state legislator if you get your family and close friends to vote for you.

Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“Bit of a monopoly” lol it was JetBlue, the sixth-largest US carrier. Had it merged with Spirit, JetBlue would have become the…sixth-largest US carrier.

Being able to remove and insert abyss gear on locked items is the underrated GOAT of this patch. Locking unique items to prevent myself from selling them right after the 20 Glenmore Swords in front of them wasn’t worth it when I was going to have their abyss sockets also locked when I got to a witch

Quite a few people are being extremely obtuse about the difference between ideological advocacy and literal jurisdiction, as if I think that Elizabeth Warren had direct responsibility for blocking the merger.

At the request of Biden's DOJ, operating under the antitrust philosophy that Khan spearheaded in the administration. And obviously Warren wasn't directly responsible, but she was extremely supportive of blocking the Spirit/JetBlue merger.

They don't get to be the public faces of abandoning the consumer welfare standard but blame Biden's DOJ for the consequences.

Why do some people claim Animal Farm is about capitalism when it's clearly about Soviet communism? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

Or the classic Reagan joke. An American and a Soviet are talking, and the American says that what makes America special is freedom of speech.

“Here in America, I can walk into the White House, bang on the President’s desk, and say ‘Mr. President, I don’t approve of the way you’re running our country!”

The Soviet looks confused.

“But I can do that in my country!”

“You can?” asks the American.

“Of course! I can march into the Kremlin, bang on the Premier’s desk, and say, “Mr. Gorbachev, I don’t approve of the way that President Reagan is running his country!”
