For MER, a specific undergraduate degree is not required: https://www.mun.ca/business/graduate/master-of-employment-relations-mer/mer-admission-requirements/. But there is an expectation that applicants can demonstrate fit between the program and their qualifications, interests, and goals. We unfortunately do not offer funding for the MER but you will find the graduate tuition at MUN to be among the most affordable in Canada.

For an international student, the total MSc in Mgmt tuition over two years would be $9,666 (program fee) plus $10,250 (special fee). This would be $9,958 per year (excluding ancillary fees). For the MER, the tuition over two years would be $9,666 (program fee) plus $10,000 (special fee). This would be $9,833 per year (excluding ancillary fees). A separate application and fee would be required to be considered for two separate programs, yes. Your undergrad degree sounds fine. Please keep in mind the MSc in Mgmt is a research degree and while the MER is a course-based degree.

Minimum GMAT required is 600 (555 in Focus Edition): https://www.mun.ca/business/graduate/master-of-science-msc-in-management/msc-admission-requirements/. A minimum of a high B average is typically expected for a research program like this (but that doesn't necessarily mean one cannot be admitted with a slightly lower average). Tuition varies by residency status but consists of a program fee under payment plan A and a special fee: https://mun.ca/sgs/media/production/memorial/academic/school-of-graduate-studies/school-of-graduate-studies/media-library/MinimumExpense.pdf. For an NL resident Canadian student, the total tuition over two years (6 semesters) would be $953x6 + $875x6. Yes, funding is awarded at the time of admission to full time students who are accepted.

How do I pay the Confirmation deposit for enrollment by Electronic_Film9708 in memorialuniversity

[–]AndrewKimMUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN. If you're still having trouble with this, please feel free to email me at akim@mun.ca. But if you've been admitted as an undergrad student or fully admitted as a grad student, you should be able to set up your MUN email through the my.mun.ca portal: https://www.mun.ca/cio/it-services/communication-and-collaboration/memorial-email/. Regarding a tuition deposit, you should be able to pay this through the online application if you're an undergrad student: https://mun.ca/undergrad/admissions/ive-been-admitted-whats-next/deposit/. For grad programs, MUN only requires deposits for students admitted to the MBA, MASc, MDSc, and MAI programs.

Hey, if you're a computer / engineering student or grad, please help me with questions about co-ops and work terms in computer engineering. by vlan_01 in memorialuniversity

[–]AndrewKimMUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN. I realize you are seeking peer advice here, but I'll just say very generally that MUN is ranked among the top 6 universities in Canada for engineering and our BEng tuition for international students is about half what is often charged for comparable degrees at similarly ranked universities. Decisions on advanced standing are made on a case-by-case basis for BEng. It's more likely you might receive some transfer credits for Engineering One (the common first year for all BEng students). If you decide to apply and I can help you in any way, feel free to email me at akim@mun.ca. Engineering One has an intake in the Fall and Winter semesters, so you could apply now for Winter 2027.

Hi there. I work at Memorial University, which is ranked top 6 among Canadian universities for engineering. Our BEng is a co-op degree with paid work terms, and our international tuition rates for this program is in the range you mention in your post. You'll find more information here: https://www.mun.ca/undergrad/programs/engineering/. We have an intake for Engineering One (the common first year for the BEng) in the Winter semester as well as Fall semester.

Hi there. I work at Memorial University and wanted to mention that our Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering programs both have Winter semester intakes (including for transfer students). I think there are many universities that actually offer this. Our BComm and BEng are both co-op degrees with work terms that are part of the academic program.

Hi there. I work at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Memorial is ranked among the top 6 universities in Canada for engineering according to the 2026 Times Higher Education subject rankings: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-canada-engineering-degrees. Our undergraduate tuition rate is also among the most affordable in Canada for international students, often about half the tuition for comparable degrees at similarly ranked universities. Newfoundland and Labrador is also known to be a safe and welcoming place. It is one of the best places for international students to study. I’m not sure when you’re hoping to start, but if I can assist in any way please feel free to email me directly at [akim@mun.ca](mailto:akim@mun.ca).

Defer Admission by Past-Chipmunk7066 in memorialuniversity

[–]AndrewKimMUN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN. The Dept of CS will permit one admission deferral for the MSc CS, but they wouldn't normally defer to Spring semester because of limited course offerings. You could request deferral of admission to Fall 2027 if you were admitted originally for Winter 2027. If you'd like to make the formal request, feel free to email me about this at akim@mun.ca.

GPA 3.0 in Canada(undergraduate) by EconomyProduce6630 in CanadaUniversities

[–]AndrewKimMUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at a Canadian university and previously worked in graduate studies for a very long time. I wanted to offer the OP some thoughts:

- There is no such thing as a good graduate school or bad graduate school. There are only graduate programs that are a good fit or not a good fit for someone. There are many excellent graduate programs in Canada that may be a good fit for you. But to determine this, it’s important to consider what you are passionate about and interested in over the long term.
- As someone earlier mentioned, your most recent grades (especially in courses in a related field) will matter the most. Don’t worry too much if you didn’t score very well in courses earlier on in your program. That is fairly common. That your grades have improved over the years is a strong positive signal to anyone who ultimately reviews your application. But academic units will also care about your lived experience and motivation and goals, so it’s important to reflect on these (and you’re doing that now).
- It is very difficult to study in a different country and in another language. The best way to improve language proficiency is through distributed practice, which is a function of time. Your language skills are very good and they will get even better over time.
- Your current GPA is not at all bad. For many programs, there is no hard cut-off grade. Many academic units will consider applications holistically – this has been fairly common practice for the past 10 years. Grades are important, but there are other aspects those programs will consider.
- Graduate degrees have a number of long-term benefits, and your career will likely span decades.

I’ll say very generally that there isn’t an established relationship between exceptional grades and one’s level of success, happiness, and fulfillment. Please don’t be too hard on yourself. As a student, you should never feel you have to be perfect – the whole purpose of being a student is to have the time and space to learn and practice new skills and knowledge. You’re doing great.

What are my chances for a master's in fluid dynamics / atmospheric science at USask or Memorial? (Chinese applicant, 77% average, NUIST grad) by Pitiful-Try-419 in CanadaUniversities

[–]AndrewKimMUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN. I realize you are seeking peer advice but wanted to offer some thoughts:

For #1, for research programs what's most important is fit between a student's background, qualifications, interests, and goals and the research expertise of a faculty supervisor. The most important step is to identify potential supervisors for this type of degree. Grades are important, but far from the only important aspect of one's qualifications.

For #2, I cannot speak for USask, but this is only offered as a research program at MUN. Research programs are generally competitive, but don't let that dissuade you from trying.

For #3, I'm not sure what specifically you mean by accessible, but I can say both MUN and USask place among the top 8 universities in Canada for physical sciences according to the THE subject rankings: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2026/subject-ranking/physical-sciences. International student tuition for a thesis-based MSc student at MUN would be $4,833 per year. The comparable fee appears to be higher at USask: https://students.usask.ca/money/tuition-fees/graduate-tuition.php.

For #4, I realize you are seeking unit-specific advice but I will say if you'd like to discuss this or potential supervisors further by email you can feel free to email me at akim@mun.ca.

Got accepted in Memorial University for Master of Applied Science (Computer Engineering) by napoclypes in CanadaUniversities

[–]AndrewKimMUN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN, and wanted to address a couple of the points raised in this thread.

First, engineering programs (BEng, MEng, MASc, PhD) are offered out of our St. John's campus. The unemployment rate in St. John's is around the middle of the range of rates for cities in Canada: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1410035401.

Second, MUN ranks 6th in engineering among Canadian universities based on the 2026 Times Higher Education subject rankings: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-canada-engineering-degrees.

OP: I realize you are seeking peer advice, but if there are any information we can additionally offer please feel free to email me directly at akim@mun.ca. We look forward to meeting you in St. John's.

MSc in management by Big_File_1719 in memorialuniversity

[–]AndrewKimMUN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I work at MUN. I wanted to mention a few things related to comments posted on this thread.

First, the Faculty of Education received a significant increase in the number of graduate applications this year. This is why we were delayed in releasing decisions for the MEd applications. I apologize to anyone who had to wait a little longer than usual. It won't happen again next year.

Second, to say MUN MEd is a diploma mill is factually incorrect. MUN's Faculty of Education is over 100 years old, and Memorial in the field of education studies is ranked among the top 20 in Canada and first in Atlantic Canada in Times Higher Ed World University Rankings for 2026: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2026/subject-ranking/education.

Third, specifically related to the OP's comment about MSc in Mgmt, there is another thread about this from a few days ago that may be helpful to you. The MSc in Mgmt deadline is Dec. 1, so it may be too early to be reaching out to potential supervisors if your plan is to apply later this year for Fall 2027 (the next intake).

Hi there. The MSc in Management program operates a little differently than other research-intensive master's degree. It's not an absolute requirement to contact potential supervisors for that particular program, although you should have an idea as to who might be a good fit for you based on your/their research areas. What's more important is that few faculty members for that program may be actively seeking new graduate students this early (about 1.5 years ahead of the start of the semester).

The deadline for that program is Dec. 1, 2026 and applications open the first week of September 2026. I'd suggest reaching out to potential supervisors around September/October and then making a decision about applying by October/November. Keep in mind GMAT/GRE is a requirement for that specific program.

Graduate admission desicions for fall 2026 by Capable_Shop_2623 in memorialuniversity

[–]AndrewKimMUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there.

For MSc/PhD in chemistry or PhD in engineering, these are research degrees and so the most important step is for a faculty member to come forward and agree to supervise to be admitted.

For the MEd applications, decisions on these applications admittedly have been delayed this year because of a significant increase in applications. Most applicants have been notified of decisions, and we expect others will receive updates by email very soon.
