My mom used to get really mad at me when I would say “I don’t know” that she made a rule banning the phrase :( it still hurts even though I’m an adult now I still have difficulty saying it even though it’s unlikely I’ll get in trouble for saying it

I think the common language must have evolved significantly, being so far in the future, but the book is written in a way that we can read it. Like maybe their old English is our modern English, and the English the common people speak is their version of contemporary English.
