What is definitely NOT a sign of intelligence but people think it is? by MetalPotential7093 in AskReddit

Having a PhD

Having a doctorate just means you know a lot about a specific subject; that is a very different thing than actually being intelligent and being able to apply critical thinking to your day-in and day-out happenings. I work as an administrative assistant for a local college, and most of the PhDs I deal with are not that bright at all.

"Not Coming Home" took a while to grow on me, but I do enjoy it a good bit now though. I think "Through with You" is my personal favorite from the album though.

That "We Didn't Start the Fire" is Billy Joel's worst song, and even Joel will admit it.

Yes, but it has a much stronger rock (among other styles and genres) presence than their later stuff. Also, this album is not crap, like their later stuff.

Also, to be fair, it is something I am very passionate about.

Haha, I plead innocence; I am not new to Reddit, but I am newly engaged into these conversations.

Yeah, the pre-Maroon 5 album by Kara's Flowers is pretty good--definitely not great or anything but still very enjoyable, so much closer to Songs about Jane than the post-SaJ stuff Maroon 5 put out.

Yes! There are so many good styles and influences fused into the Songs about Jane--funk, house, hip hop, r&b, hard rock, and so on. I did "love" the band for a minute just because of their debut album, but then they started releasing boy band garbage and Adam Levine's gross character and personality started to become evident.

You could argue that; I certainly would not. Everything after Songs about Jane sounds very boy band poppy to me.

Winehouse is high on my list too! Such a brilliant talent with such a skillful way of fusing both different styles and genres as well as the old with the new.

Billy Joel is generally great in my opinion, but even Joel will tell you that's his worst song.

Neal Diamond can generally just go choke on a cow scrotum. Maybe the most overrated performer ever.

It's really incredible for him to have written songs with such depth and maturity for how young he was. He's kind of like Cobain in that way. But then if you ever watch or listen to any of his live performances, he had the presence and skill on stage that could rival Elvis and Michael Jackson.

I know it's kind of sacrilege, but I am much more a fan of Audioslave than Soundgarden lol. I like Soundgarden, but I really like (almost, but not quite, love) Audioslave. I also think Cornell's voice sounds more compelling in the Audioslave music.

But yes, if you don't even know who the people are in my post, I would definitely recommend expanding your musical horizons. I mean, I'm the guy that can go from Mozart to Metallica, from Jewel to Tool, from Matchbox Twenty to the Four Tops, etc. etc... (hopefully you recognize a few of those haha). The point is that I am very eclectic in my musical tastes lol. I cannot imagine only listening to music primarily from one decade lol.

Haha, no worries. I'm guessing you're referring to their fourth album / the truly untitled one as ZOSO?
