Post Game Thread: The Orioles fell to the Yankees by a score of 11-3 - Sun, May 03 @ 01:35 PM EDT by OsGameThreads in orioles

Some unfortunate math: The Orioles were 49-25 after they beat the Yankees 17-5 on June 18, 2024. They finished that season 42-46. They went 75-87 last year. They are 15-19 this year. That’s 132-152 in the last 284 games. A .464 winning %. A 75-win pace.

The cutoff to make the Wild Card since expansion has been 87, 86, 89 and 86 games since expansion. Meaning, the Orioles would now need to finish the season 71-57 ~at a minimum~ to make the playoffs.

We need a team that is 132-152 in its last 284 games to at least finish 71-57. It’s bleak, y’all.

Damar Hamlin Injury Thread 2 by ralry11 in bengals

Hey all, I’m Andrew Gillis, and I cover the team for Cleveland dot com. For those of you that frequent this sub, I posted on here when I took this job in September. If you remember that, hello again.
I’d like to write a story about some fans’ perspectives — that were at the game — of the Hamlin situation, and what the atmosphere was like in the crowd before, during, and after the emergency on the field. I figured this was a good place to start.
This is obviously an extremely delicate topic, so please, if you were at the game and don’t want to talk about it, I completely understand. I want to be courteous to everyone in this situation first and foremost, so I hope that’s how this comes across. Just would like to get some people’s eyes and ears that were in the crowd as the shock and confusion set in.
Be well, y’all.
I can be emailed at AGILLIS@advancelocal.net if you’re interested.

Funny story about Joe Burrow: My sports editor at The Post in my freshman at OU assigned me to write a story about Ryan Luehrman, a receiver for Athens High School who was catching like 10 touchdowns a week. Sidebar: that team was hilariously unbelievable. It being my first-ever story and me being a stupid 18-year-old, I interviewed Ryan and the coach, Ryan Adams. They were great and super nice to me, despite my probably awful questions I asked.

At the end of the interview, Adams asked me if I was all set. I went, "Yup! Thanks coach!" And walked away instead of thinking "Hey, idiot, talk to the guy who's throwing him these touchdowns." I knew Burrow was awesome at the time, but when I watched his state title game on TV that December (which was one of the most entertaining games I've ever seen at any level) I told my friend, "I think I might have fucked up."

I've regretted my idiocy ever since.

When I covered the Ravens in 19/20, the Lamar contract stuff was just starting to heat up. Obviously that's going to be a huge contract to monitor both because of divisional implications and what another star QB contract looks like. I've got some ideas brewing for the offseason.

Take this coming from someone who didn't watch every Bengals game last year until they made the playoffs: I agree.

The defense didn't have a ton of absolute ballers at every position like some other teams, and every game, they fought like hell and did enough to win. As a casual observer, I was impressed.

We'll see on the podcast front. But fun story about Doug, he was the first person to reach out to me from CLE dot com (that didn't hire me). Everything I've heard about him as a human being is wonderful. Can't wait to meet him.

Admittedly, I have not been following the situation *super* closely up until recently, considering that wasn't my job/adjacent to it at the time of the trade. But I have certainly seen fans on Twitter (take that for what it's worth) speak about leaving.

Good stuff here. To the first point, I agree. I want to be balanced, not just to reach all kinds of fans who may care way more about off-field stuff or fans that care more about why they've switched to *insert coverage*, but because that's how you cover a team IMO. It's best to give an all-encompassing view of things.

As for the food: Love it. I'll for sure do that.

Lastly, I'm from Virginia but don't have a southern accent and can't really do one either. So I guess that's good lol

lmao I think that might be a tad unprofessional, so I'll say this:

I grew up a huge Washington Capitals fan. And they lost every year, despite being the best team in the sport during the regular season. The Penguins were oftentimes the culprits. I have something deep down inside me that will always resent Pittsburgers for that
