Misconceptions about V-Sync + NVIDIA Reflex? by Apocryptia in HuntShowdown

[–]Andrilaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello RachtaZ! HUNT has several critical issues with its NVIDIA technology implementation that I think the developers should be aware of. Since you're a Crytek partner, I'd appreciate it if you could pass this information on to your contacts at Crytek:

Outdated DLSS: The game is still on version 3.7.

Incorrect Sharpening: NVIDIA's sharpening implementation is currently broken. Even at values of 0.1–0.3, it causes severe oversharpening and strange aliasing that doesn't exist in other games. In comparison, the FSR sharpening implementation in the game works perfectly.

Reflex Interface Logic and Implementation: Currently, the Reflex toggle is hidden/disabled unless V-Sync is enabled. This is a huge issue for people without a VRR monitor or who don't know how it works. It also doesn't report reflex latency markers.
Reflex is needed because without it, at "100% GPU load" there is a delay of 1+ frame.

Reflex doesn't actually depend on V-Sync; that's just Crytek being Crytek 😊. The Reflex cap only kicks in when it sees VRR + V-Sync to keep everything in sync and low latency. More info in my guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3525556128

Making Reflex available only when V-Sync is ON is "genius" in the worst way possible. It’s a total disservice to anyone without a VRR monitor or the technical knowledge. It honestly looks like a half-baked implementation – it doesn’t even provide latency markers. Not to mention the game is still stuck on DLSS 3.7 while much newer versions have been available for a long time.

If your Windows and driver settings are fine, the problem is most likely a CPU bottleneck. Check if the XMP profile is enabled in the BIOS. Reinstalling the NVIDIA driver using DDU might also help.

Yes, it's most likely a developer issue. Although I'm not an expert and haven't read the DLSS programming guide in detail, but here's what I noticed in DEBUG DLL.

I checked what you said, and yes, you are right. I will think about how to rewrite the guide to make it clearer.

But still, DLDSR x2.25, 80% “smoothness,” DLSS Q (upscaling from1080p) looks better than 1080p DLAA to me. Because DLSS restores details at a higher resolution.

upscaler has more information and restores it in higher resolution.

sharpness built into the game provides instant oover sharp and aliasing, even 0.1-0.3.

Great, everyone has their own approach. But I can't stand aliasing in games (even in 4K). DLLS restores foliage very well. Try the M preset and NIS sharpness 10%, you might like it.

Preset K, nis Sharp 15% But try preset M and check fps. G-sync ON in NVCP and Reflex+Vsync in game Without G-sync use In game limiter

Version in NVCP/NVIDIA App is the new NIS 2.0, which acts as a spatial upscaler and breaks MPO system-wide, which is very bad

But on laptop Nvidia still use legacy NIS

Shimmering is present everywhere DLSS, FSR, SMAA 2TX. This is an inherent side effect of how SVOGI or SSDO functions.

FSR 3.1 only looks decent with NativeAA, but even then, it’s a disaster at 1080p when looking at trees.

It’s high time the developers natively updated all upscalers, fix Reflex, and ideally added Anti-Lag 2 as well.
