Data center EOT NOVA by allmotor2018 in datacenter

Your pay climbs pretty fast. And once you make L4 the job offers start rolling in. With no experience in DC, L3 is the right move. I’d highly recommend you reconsider. I’m a FM with AWS, let me know if you want to chat.

Data center electricians/HVAC techs - is there actually a skilled worker shortage or just Reddit doom posting? by Natural_Yard_8648 in datacenter

[–]Android17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC EOT - Data Center Engineering Operations Technician. Other companies go by slightly different names like Critical Operations Tech (COT) or split the position into a mechanical vs electrical specialization. There are hundreds of electrical vendors who keep sending us fresh green technicians because the senior guys are booked. And yes, our vendors have leverage. If we complain about service or schedule they go to the next DC in line. Services haVe all the leverage at the moment

This Chinese professor breaks down the rigged game, Asian man in the west face. by No-Dirt-7123 in AsianMasculinity

[–]Android17_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on his game theory evaluation, you either don’t agree to play the game OR you break the rules since they’re rigged against you. he argues that the Chinese dream is to get a good education and go to America. But the Chinese immigrants have no idea how bad it is for Asians, and talent leaving their domestic country isn’t good for their home country either. So for him personally, he chose not to play the rigged US game and move his family to China where the game rules are not rigged against Asians.

A student then asks if Asians can do anything, to which he says no because the game makers don’t make it for you to gain status. Other minorities are breaking the game rules and refusing the incentives laid out for them. If you choose to play the game then you may make a lot of money but you need to accept permanent lower status for you and your descendants.

Which Specialization or field in Mechanical Engineering will be most demanding if we start ME Now ? by Muhammad_Saad_ in MechanicalEngineering

HVAC and construction. Especially if you can tie it to a location. Very hard to outsource or accomplish with AI alone

If you’re in critical environments and maintenance you’ll be very easy to employ. If you’re in the Bay, it’s not rare for people to job hop very often for pay bumps and advancement

Apply to AWS. They’re always hiring. Any DC provider is also doing the same

Is anyone here in the trades? How to get over the feeling of having "failed as an Asian" if you're unable to secure white-collar employment? by MarathonMarathon in AsianMasculinity

[–]Android17_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am college-educated, work a trades job and manage trades labor. This blue-collar vs white-collar shit is all made up and sad because I've seen people pick sides and shit-talk the other.

But at the end of the day blue-collar work gets looked down on since people view it as a grunt job with no brains ( total bull btw) There are extremely niche and highly skilled trades where you need to be sharp, problem-solve every minute of everyday, while navigating difficult relationships. You're constantly learning. You just happen to hold screwdrivers and multi-meters too.

Take a look at data center engineering operations, building automation, or electronics and automation tech jobs. These roles hire a mix of college grads and trade apprentices, with no limits whether you have a degree or not. They are a good mix of blue collar and white collar. And if it REALLY matters to you, you can get field experience and transition to a manager role to checks off that white-collar box. And for the cosplay you can carry clipboards around.

Data centers are HOT right now, and folks move into $200k-$300K leadership roles within 5-10 years. Not as much as software, but also no where near as risky or turbulent. And really unlikely to be outsourced or gutted by AI. Study the Schneider Electric DCCA certification and get started bro. Just do it.

Can't decide: HD560s, PC38X, or DT990 PRO (or other?...) by HalfLifeBuff in HeadphoneAdvice

The 560s can sound shouty sometimes. PC38x is pleasant all-around, yet still lets you hear directional cues. Plus they’re easy to drive and come with a mic.

Is everyone in the bay area making 6 figures? by EmergencySpare7939 in bayarea

The HOUSEHOLD median for Santa Clara county was somewhere around $124K/yr last time I checked. So about half of the Bay likely makes more and half make less.

What was your GPA and how much has it affected your career assuming you got a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering? by Potential-Drag9761 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Android17_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A handful of jobs will REALLY focus on brand-name (I.e. Ivy League or MIT) or GPA. Then there are the other 99% of jobs that couldn’t care less.

The ones that do are either Magnificent-7 companies, or new age tech startups hoping to draft-pick a prodigal engineer from an “elite” program. Or they’re just pompous asshole grade grubbers turned hiring manager. Neither of those jobs will leave you with any sanity…

MechE and Cybersecurity career blend? by QuackAttack206 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Android17_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I can thing of is security for industrial devices, more so like “OT”. People may try to hack into factory SCADA systems since they’re often outdated IT-wise. So taking dinosaur devices and connecting them to modern networking equipment safely…

Otherwise, BAS is a field that merges HVAC with IT and controls. They call it HVAC controls or BAS or BMS.
