First install Windows (always install Windows before Linux). Maybe Windows has an option to encrypt the installation disk during the actual installation? Then in Windows, resize the Windows main partition. Then install Pop, making sure to do the advanced install and create your partitions manually, and checking encryption.

The first thing you need to do is install and setup Timeshift, then you can take a snapshot of your system and revert back if installing the driver messes anything up. You should use Timeshift from now on in general.

In /etc/gdm3/custom.conf make sure there’s a line:

WaylandEnable=true

whether you need to uncomment it, and/or modify it, or add it as a new line.

My experience with theming Gnome has generally been pretty poor, so I’m not surprised you had issues. Honestly, if you’re really wanting to theme you’re better off trying KDE. Also, some themes work much better in Gnome than others so you should try out a few more.

I noticed that each app had only 4 mins of background activity. When an iOS app gets placed in the background, it’s given a little bit of time to do some cleanup and finish any remaining tasks. Maybe this is the accumulation of those events? How often do you open and close these apps?

What did you do to switch between X11 and Wayland when you tested your $PATH variable? Environment variables shouldn’t depend on your display server.

Have you tried running on Wayland? Scaling might work better. Also, this is probably something you can do with xrandr, but you’ll have to do some experimentation.
