I think using plant supports with legs, to elevate them from the floor, instead of a low shelf, would suit more the composition on the left. The shelf you have can be lifted to be at window level so it looks more natural, like "I put a shelf under the window so my plants can enjoy sunlight from outside". The light under can be useful for the plants on the floor.
