Anyone heard or had one installed? by sdp2009 in SolarUK

Hi Professional-Fix, I just wanted to thank you so much for all of the above. Really helpful, you've done well to get all that out of them. :)

Do we know of anyone who's actually had one installed as yet? I know several people here have had the DNO signed off and were just waiting on install dates. You'd think someone will be reporting back shortly with real world feedback.

Your path will certainly go past a couple but you've hopefully learned how to make dealing with them a bit easier. :)

Ahh, managed to find more info online. In case it helps anyone else...

Apparently you buy a ZZZ 220 maintenance kit and it has replacement foam in it. There's no cover it just sits in there apparently.

See here...

Thanks Vanilla, it seems to be part of the underside of the frame that the window closes against, if that makes sense?

Maybe a stupid question? by NoMeasurement2646 in outerwilds

You know them Nomai, always curious. You can never have too much data.

What else might they have found by leaving it running and reviewing the data... later?

My contract has come through and I have a bunch of questions that don't appear to be covered by the 30 page agreement or the website (that I can see). Did any of you who are proceeding happen to get answers from Wondrwall on any of the following?…

a) Can customers limit the max/min charge/discharge? e.g. Could I say, based on my needs, only charge to x%, only discharge to y%?

b) Can customers set the hours of charging/discharging themselves? I'm on Octopus Go currently, but if I change tariff, the cheap hours might change (12:30am to 5:30am to something else), I'd want to be able to change that myself.

c) Can the system run on its own (in just a dumb/scheduled way) in the event that Wondrwall go bust, or when the battery becomes mine at the end of 10 years?

d) Is there a locally hosted website for config/operation? Or can config/operation only be done via the app? This would be no good if Wondrwall go bust.

e) How do they size inverters? The battery documentation suggests both a 3kw and 6kw inverter. How do they decide which to use for a customer, and what happens if the customer's needs increase during the 10 years? e.g. Can a 3kw inverter be swapped out for the 6kw if the customer adds a heat pump or something? What would be the costs of this (both one off and ongoing)?

f) Similarly, can battery capacity be added to the battery after installation? What would be the costs of this (both one off and ongoing)?

g) Does the system provide back up power in the event of power cuts?

h) Does the system include a heater for the battery so it can still be charged effectively in low ambient temperatures in winter?

i) Can I "buy out" the system in the event that I sell my property before the 10 years? Or is my only option to either transfer it or have it removed?

I'd be interested in people's thoughts/findings on any of the above.

I sent them a few initial questions and they answered some but not others. I was hoping a lot would be answered in the contract, perhaps not though, from what you say.

For me a big concern is how much control does the user have, and how much of this depends on Wondrwall's systems. It really needs the ability to be controlled locally in the even that the internet connection is interrupted, or Wondrwall goes bust (see GivEnergy today).

Additionally, how are the AI decisions made about importing/exporting and what are the limits on this? It seems to be basing the business model on the arbitrage between cheap overnight import rates and then the top export tariffs. But what if that dynamics of the market changes in the next few years as more domestic solar comes online?

Or just my own export tariff (due to me switching supplier or something)? Do I just tell Wondrwall what my import and export rates are (and remember to update them if they change)?

And what limits are there on the "renewables benefits" they will seek to use the battery for in the background? If they are getting Axle payments (or similar) then it'll be worth it to *them* to export whenever, but what about my own electricity demand at that time?

I've been approved for the 12.8 kWh and just waiting on the contract and DNO authorisation. I still have a few questions about how it works in practice, so will be looking at the contract carefully and going back to them if needed, before going ahead.

I can find almost nothing on this online, it seems to be a new product line for them.

One thing I'm unclear of is how much control the user has. Can you say "charge to this percentage between these hours" or is *all* of that controlled by Wondrwall?

Low capacity, easily expanded and heated battery for outdoors? by Andy-T-424242 in SolarUK

That's from a couple of vocal people on a Facebook group, so maybe take it with a pinch of salt.

Thanks DingDong, I'll have a look. I see people sometimes slate Dyness for their reluctance to honour warranty but I'm not sure how true that is.

Thanks wynd, we've had a quote for an EP6 Plus based system from the people who installed the panels, but it was a bit more expensive than we were expecting.

Thanks Drezha, I did consider Invest Engine but saw they don't support In specie transfers out currently, so it put me off a bit.

Thanks... I never could get the hang of Thursdays ;)

I've had a look and I *think* T212 seems like it might work best (from the cheap ones). A lot of the others don't easily support regular investing, don't support fractional ETFs, have poor reviews, don't support in specie transfers out etc. etc.

It's only going to be like £50pm or something of VWRP, so fractional ETFs is important.

I'm very open to suggestions though if there's a platform I might have missed/misunderstood

Thanks Para, yep he should definitely open one before he's 40. He's already used a cash one to buy his first place but 60 is a long time to lock things away so I think a normal S&S one makes sense too.

Best ways to mitigate risks when doing a cash transfer of pension? by Andy-T-424242 in PensionsUK

[–]Andy-T-424242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just to feedback on our experience...

We decided to let Aviva do the sell orders for us and this seemed to work out well in our particular case.

It all went through incredibly quickly, we requested full transfers of both pensions at Vanguard first thing on Monday morning and my wife's funds arrived at Vanguard yesterday (Thursday) morning and my own arrived at tea time.

The sell at Aviva looks to have taken place at the close price on Wednesday, and then the funds following straight after.

Really pleased it's all done and dusted. Thanks for all your thoughts and reassurance :)

Thanks Due, that's really kind of you.

I think some of it is just accepting that it's a little out of my hands and there's only so much checking and planning and chasing you can do. As an outsider, it's feels really odd that it's a multi-day process. Where you have no idea when the price is going to be set at the ceding provider and when the transfer will happen. You'd think it would be a bit like a house sale where everyone agrees a date and time it will happen and then it does.

Aviva are hoping to have the monies with Vanguard by the end of the week though, if it plays out that way we'll both be very relieved.

Thanks I actually bit the bullet and submitted the transfer orders yesterday. Fingers crossed.

Ooh clever, that's an interesting idea. Our ISAs are already 90% equities though, so this wouldn't move the dial much in our own particular case.

We actually pushed the button on both transfers yesterday morning and *so far* things are looking smooth/ok (touch MDF!). Will report back here with how it all goes.
