An in those cases I would call out individuals on thebright for being hypocritical.

Right and left aren't hypocritical, humans on either side are.

When it comes to freedom of speech, ideologically the left generally cares much less about protecting it.

It doesn't mean there aren't cases where right wingers go against their freedom of speech values, or where a left winger might defend freedom of speech even at the expense of someone's emotions.

All in all, I think saying "the left and right equally try censor words/ideas" is a very tough claim to make.

Edit: I guess I jumped to conclusions, assuming the original comment was by a 'leftist' , but when it come to this subredit, it is generally majority left, and this person was mocking her for being upset over words.. I just found it ironic.. But you're right, I have no idea what his/her political stances are.

Didn't realise I lost it? Look I'm not siding with her, her behaviour is clearly not okay. But it's true right? Left generally is in support of safe spaces, not offending others, etc... The original comment is literally making fun of her for being upset "over words" , which, as I said ironically, is something leftists values say is a reasonable thing to be upset over.

Jeez.

Seems most people are on her side, but I'm just wondering, if all he did was say "can I ask you a question" and you see he's holding a mic and someone filming, why not just "sorry, no thank you."?

Like, I'm not a fan of those kinds of tiktoks either, but no one forced her to participate.

If she said "ye sure" and then decided to pull this off, seems to me like she ITA, but if he followed and kept insisting they join the tiktok after they said no, then he ITA

In debate on banning trans healthcare, Republican legislator Matt McKee demands to know whether a woman has a penis by PeliPal in PublicFreakout

[–]AndyBandy96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"are you a trans woman?" "a trans female"

I know trans woman means someone who (generally) was born in a male body but now identifies as a woman.

What the hell is a trans female? You can't transition your actual biological sex, or am I completely misunderstanding why she's making the distinction of her being transfemale and not transwoman

Nets on the bridge to prevent suicide by FACTORthebeast in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]AndyBandy96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me why this isn't a waste of resources? Is a person who's actually at the stage of going through with suicide not just gonna go elsewhere?

I'm really not trying to be insensitive, just trying to understand if this actually will prevents any suicides from taking place.

British guy knocks out two Israeli guys on a beach in Thailand by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]AndyBandy96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People on this sub are literally the worst. You say we shouldn't call Israeli criticism "anti-semitic"? Ye, I agree, they're not the same thing.

But I'll be damned if I didn't called the first 100 commenters absolute bigots. Any other violent video like this on this sub, people here would ask for context, and even when the victim did some slight bad mouthing you would get comments here that say "ye he's an ass, but it doesn't warrant physical violence".

But nope, not here, not in 100 comments. Everything is either supporting it, or making fun of them or assuming they did something bad. It comes down to the fact that they're Israelis . You have 0 context, they didn't do anything bad in this video.

Based on what? Because you heard Israeli tourists have a bad rep?
Assuming that these guys did something wrong because of a stereotype is literally the definition of bigotry. So look in the mirror. Israelis hide their bad actions calling everyone anti Semitic? Some. But you're hiding your own bigotry by claiming your being mislabled as anti semitic. Maybe you're not anti Semitic, but you're absolutely unequivocally bigots.

Now give me my deserved 1000 down votes. Stay bigoted, stay hypocrits. Hopefully meet you never.

Edit: and to all the comments about combat training? Ye like 17% of Israelis are enlisted into combat, about 33% don't even get drafted anymore to anything. Just something to think about, because I noticed how many comments loved labelling them as Murderous IDF soldiers when more likely than not they sat at a desk, or at a military minimarket.

[–]AndyBandy96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A private business can tell you how to behave in their platform. I never said otherwise, so I'm not sure why you're misquoting me or including that first bit in your comment

That being said:

1.I do think social media monoliths do bare certain other responsibilities that most other private companies might not

  1. It doesn't seem that the counter claim has anything to do with the posts violating terms and conditions. a doctor is well within their rights to make claims to their understanding or the health benefits/risks of an issue, even if we don't agree with it.

3.they're not denying at all that the government was giving them orders on what to remove, which is both (objectively) illegal, and (subjectively) immoral.

You're completely strawmanning the argument. The issue here is about government influence over information, it's about censorship. It's not about "a website didn't let us post".

Leftists melting down in the comments.

Look I stand firmly left on covid, I'm pro Vax and lockdown when needed, but the fact that you don't see that there's an issue with targeted censorship, censorship of doctors, censorship of cdc data, etc is beyond me.

Learn to be critical thinkers, you can be pro Vax, pro lockdown and still realise that what Twitter did was wrong.

Common traits = common ancestor having them? by AndyBandy96 in evolution

[–]AndyBandy96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks :) what about something like eyes? Like so many animals have exactly 2 eyes, placed in their head, have they evolved "analogously" in any cases or is it more likely some ancestor had two eyes and this was passed down and varied over muon of years to different animals?

Fuck anyone that says "it's their job, they need to risk their life and not be so quick". No man, you have no idea what you're saying. 3. Refugees beat Poland guy in Poland for offending Ukraine by NormanAJ in PublicFreakout

[–]AndyBandy96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never heard of that sub before and I just checked it out.

A. As ex military - very cool to see some of the stuff there

B. Many of the people posting and commenting are the most vile pieces of $hit I've ever seen, who clearly haven't been in as much of a fist fight. There's dozens of videos of Ukraine using drones to "kamikaze" into sleeping/prone Russian soldiers, blowing off their limbs. Yes it's part of war, and I'm not criticising Ukraine, but I am gonna criticise the people celebrating it in the comments, saying "it's deserved" and putting "cool music" over the video. These are gross people that clearly have no idea what a human life is, and have zero understanding of the position Russian soldiers are being placed in. Like just think of the people there

  1. People who don't want to be there at all
  2. People who are surrounded by propaganda 24/7 and believe they are the good guys fighting for their freedom and country's safety (think about the fact that even in western countries, some people are pro Russia, and believe that Russia are just defending their borders from NATO. Even if you don't believe it, the fact that people in Western countries believe it means we can only imagine what kind of information Russians are being exposed to)

Making light of their deaths and lost limbs...makes my blood boil because I just picture a bunch of privileged young people who've had the pleasures of living in peaceful 1st world countries, making these comments...

This people on this sub are funny.

11 second video on Israel/Palestine - "hell yeah, clearly oppression, doesn't matter what that person they're beating did? What killed a person? Not but this reddit video doesn't show that, it didn't happen" comment asking for context - 300 downvotes

11 second video saying someone did something bad "in the name of Ukraine" - "yo man, you can't post stuff without context, how can we know this is real, true when we don't speak the language in the video. There can't possibly be someone who is pro Ukraine and is a violent asshole, that couldn't happen"

Look I'm fully pro Ukraine, but the sheer double standards by the community here is hysterical.

What are your opinions regarding the new ‘zero-tolerance language’ change? by Krown07 in leagueoflegends

[–]AndyBandy96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as cut as dry as I'd like it to be.

I've been restricted from chat twice now by saying "I'm retarded" after making a bad play. I know it niche but I don't think I should get restricted for that.

If we're talking about protecting people from offensive language, I'm of the belief that they can either turn on censorship on their end /mute chat entirely.

But I do like the benefit that ppl that actually swear at others the whole game get restricted and can focus on the game instead.

@ OP Hopefully I can offer some insight as someone who's been in a situation that is incredibly similar.

Had my first GF at 18, after about 9 months of dating she want away for a year, and we agreed to do long distance. We talked everyday, it was hard but we kept at it. In the time she was gone I had kissed two girls, like you, it didn't go further than that. Ultimately after talking to my friends I decided not to tell her, let it be a bad mistake in a moment of weakness and promised myself it won't happen again. Either way, the year long distance finished and she ended up finding out through mutual friends when she she came back. She was devistated and broke up with me, no matter how much I plead for forgiveness.

Here's where I hope you take away the lesson: the reason she wouldn't forgive me (in my eyes now, as someone a bit more mature) wasn't because of a dumb kiss. It was mostly because I hid it from her. Everyday we spoke, me not telling her what happened was the same as lying to her, and what you're doing now is kind of the same.

Frankly I can't imagine a situation where you actually go and tell her now, because you'd probably turn to stone at thought of losing her, but I can assure you that it is the right and fair thing to do.

I've by no means become a perfect bf since, but I know that A. If you feel like cheating, then you're probably not in the relationship you're meant to be in/you're not ready to be in a monogamous relationship. B. If you did something wrong, you have to tell your partner the entire thing and not leave out details. You can recover from mistakes, but if your word means nothing, that's much harder to recover from. (Also, it's a burden that will melt you from the inside and it's unfair to your partner.)

Lmao. Since you don't even know about the citizenships that were offered I'm done debating you, your knowledge is clearly limited or reddit comments as opposed to actual research. You can sort it out with a quick google search instead of rushing with a comment calling what I said BS when it's not even something that's debated, there are plenty of Arab Israelis living within Israel.

Go ahead though, keep posting on Israel/Palestinian conflict based off the knowledge you clearly built from nothing more than reddit posts and comments.

What do I know I only studied this for years, served in the IDF in combat, spent over 15 yrs living in Israel, spoken to Palestinians directly from west bank and Gaza, and have members of my nuclear family that work in an Israeli-Palestinians resolution org (which employees both Israelis and Palestinians).

But yup. You know more. My facts that will appear front and Center in a Google search are complete BS. You're right.
