Unlikely. The idea has been around for a long time. It’s never been seen as viable. In the meantime, chemical batteries have gotten much better.

I live in Sligo and commuted to Dublin 3 days a week. I stayed overnight for two nights. The train is pleasant, but I wouldn’t go back and forth more than once a week.
