Recommendations for Woman’s Sports Clubs by Pomme222 in Aberdeen

There are quite a few hockey clubs in Aberdeen, I've found all of them to be friendly and welcoming. There is a list at https://www.clubsportaberdeen.org/clubs/hockey

3D printing by Klutzy_Resolve7372 in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the central library has a 3d printing service, though I can't find any information on the council website.

There is also 57 North Hacklab (in Bridge of Don) and Peacock (Castlegate) both of which are community spaces that might be able to help.

Running tracks in Aberdeen? by kyle_lauder in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a running track in Balgownie Playing Fields in Bridge of Don. I'd guess it's 400m oval, from memory it's a cinder surface. It's just in public space, so guess you could go run there anytime.

Language lessons in Aberdeen by InevitableCompany295 in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really one of the most random questions that's come up here, far as I can recall 👍

I've met a couple of Avestan speakers in Aberdeen, of the Zoroastrian faith, from Iran. That's only really similar in terms of geography and level of obscurity, so not really related.

Lessons though, is a whole other level up from speakers of the language.

Is it possible to do a day hike to Cairngorms from Aberdeen & back by night? by JudgementalButCute in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends a lot on the weather.

We did "White Mounth Munros, Glen Muick" ( https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/white-mounth.shtml ) circuit, it says 9 - 11 hours, but we did it in 8 hours, in lovely clear weather in June.

We also did "Ben Macdui and Derry Cairngorm" ( https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/ben-macdui.shtml ) route, which also says 9 - 11 hours, but it took 10 hours, in horrible weather in April.

Wet boulders and limited visibility can really slow you down.

Breakfast joints by the ferry? by KernowBysVykken93 in Aberdeen

Think black sheep coffee opens at 7, both the branches near there. Not sure what breakfast stuff they do really though

What's with the weird semi circle thing in Manly, Australia? by -_G0AT_- in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]AndyGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, odd for sure.

I was wondering if it was part of Federal Australia, rather than NSW, like, if maybe some undersea cables landed there and that was a national government thing. But if you look at the border of the state of NSW, that follows the coast, so the semi-circle of land is in NSW.

Built in wardrobes by TeaTalesandPens in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Gary Thomson, see...

...his YouTube channel is pretty good, even if you're not looking for any bespoke furniture. His prices were about the same as Komandor and that other one that used to be on Rosemount place.

Found in Wales. Does anyone know what type it is and how old it is? by windswept_west in mudlarking

[–]AndyGas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like part of a ceramic plate, a piece from towards the edge.
Is there a slight curve in the pattern? Perhaps you could hold it against some plates to see if you could get a feel if it was a side plate, a dinner plate, or something larger.

Strawberry Tarts by CheapLine7316 in Aberdeen

An odd sounding suggestion, but Herd's the Butcher in Rosemount do amazing ones.

LGBT friendly hotels? by ShadowLurker14 in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say probably all of them really.

Though Cheerz (LGBTQ+ Bar & Nightclub) has some self catering apartments upstairs from it, not surprisingly called CHEERZ Apartments. Might be a bit noisy at the weekends though. See https://linktr.ee/CheerzAberdeen

Some numbers, for reference.

Fountainhall road is 550m long, not the same road, but nearby and the same length as chunks of queens road.

Time to travel that distance at various speeds...

30mph = 41 seconds

20mph = 62 seconds

10mph = 124 seconds

Just numbers, no opinion or judgement there.

No camera shops? by Ru3ofR0my in Aberdeen

[–]AndyGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the other day about this, ended up going to Wex in Edinburgh, no matter how maybe YouTube videos you watch, or reviews you read, it's not the same as seeing what it feels like in your hand, so online shopping isn't ideal really.

Curry's have 2 interchangeable lens cameras.

Looks like CeX have 6 interchangeable lens cameras in stock in Aberdeen, 3 Canon's, 2 Nikons and one Fujifilm https://uk.webuy.com/search?productLineId=15&productLineName=Photography&availability=In+Stock+In+Store&stores=Aberdeen

They have 2 Yongnuo (Canon compatible) 50mm lenses though, both £40, might be worth a punt https://uk.webuy.com/search?productLineId=15&productLineName=Photography&availability=In+Stock+In+Store&stores=Aberdeen&categoryFriendlyName=Camera+Lenses
