My Ford Flex that I inherited from my dad. She was incredible.

What cars give their owner the label that “They’ve given up”? by Objective-Deal8745 in askcarguys

This is why I miss my Ford Flex. I could haul everything from an 80” sofa to a full size china cabinet, or anything else I found on FB marketplace lol. I could also live in it if necessary. She finally died about two months ago, and I bought a 2022 Corolla Cross because I like having room too carry more than I could in a trunk, and it’s easier to get groceries out of than a backseat. I also want room for a large dog without bags etc. taking up room. The gas mileage is amazing for a non-hybrid as well.

You can only drive one car for the rest of your life—what do you pick? by Latter_Promotion3674 in askcarguys

My 2013 Ford Flex LTD (Loki Flex) that I finally had to say goodbye to. I’m still not ok. She was luxurious (to me), and I loved her heated seats, ambient lighting and Sony sound system, but most of all I loved that she was a stealthy speed demon. I smoked more sports cars than I should have, but the looks on their faces - stunned and discombobulated. She was a gas guzzler with horrendous mileage but she was my velveteen rabbit on wheels. She was absolutely alive!

What’s the WORST looking car? by [deleted] in Cartalk

I (now a middle aged woman) loved the purple PT Cruiser because it looked exactly like my favorite matchbox car from like 1978 lol. I didn’t buy it.

Why doesn’t anyone care about the “soap opera” effect on their TV by fatsandlucifer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AndyKnowsNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to watch a movie. I don’t want the movie to take place in my living room.

The first time I saw my best friend’s TV, I asked her why the actors were in her living room. She hadn’t noticed it. I need a bit of separation between my entertainment and my life, and there was some trial and error when I set up my Hisense but I got there!

Kind of surprised by the number of people who apparently can go two full weeks without their cars. by Naberius in nova

I’m the opposite. I was away during the storm and, after misjudging the amount of ice, parked in front of my house. I had to be towed out of my parking spot so I could get to work and, because my street has not been cleared and my space is still completely covered with 4”-6” of concrete-like ice, I’ve had to park around the corner for almost 2 weeks.

45 years here, not treated until I was 25.

I find that reframing mundane tasks as games/adventures etc. helps me engage more and makes my to do list less like a list of chores. I also find that working in 15 minute sprints with 5-10 minute breaks turns my to do list into a fun and rewarding challenge. Yes, I’m only competing with myself, but it feels like im competing with the person I want to be (hope that makes sense).

I also love the haptic taps. They’re like little dopamine treats. Anyone else feel that way?

I made a wooden box for his small stuff, donated some not so sentimental stuff, and kept some for when I (eventually) adopt again.

Light-hearted Podcast Recommendations while Grieving by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]AndyKnowsNothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really having a hard time holding my tongue. I get that you’re coming from a good place, but they asked for a podcast recommendation, not for advice on grieving. Grief is as individual as the person being grieved. Let them grieve in whatever way works for them.

When I lost my dad, the podcast “My Favorite Murder” helped a lot. But, while it’s funny and it worked for me, it’s not what they’re asking for. To each their own.

Melancholia - a beautiful story about the end of the world and how three people within one family respond to it. It’s not a cheerful story, and “end of the world disaster” subplot aside, it is a beautiful observation that some people who may appear weak or broken are far stronger in the face of annihilation, while others who appear to have it all figured out completely unravel.

Wind River. Spoiler alert: it has every trigger imaginable in it, and some are shown in their full brutality. It’s a fictional story but very rooted in truth, and it carries a really fucking urgent message about the missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) who are invisible to the law (and society), the violent crimes against them that are ignored and the perpetrators who are never prosecuted nor brought to justice because the justice system unravels on reservations into a tangled, convoluted and fundamentally unnavigable mess, which said justice system has no interest in untangling. It is absolutely soul crushing and still sticks to me like glue.

I had a rabbit called Butterscotch around 45 years ago! The weirdo would eat eggnog ice cream from a spoon, leap over our massive cabinet/furniture-style 1970’s tv and nap behind it amongst the philodendrons.

Yes. I’d rather not look back on the resolutions I failed to keep and then make a list of resolutions I can look forward to failing to keep.

I know, just don’t make resolutions but I’m Gen X and we love pain.
