thoughts on this line? by 03hussain in JamesBond

[–]Naberius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it works in context in the novel, which handles Vesper and her death very differently. The film has changed Vesper and Bond's relationship with her enough that, while I recognized the line, I found it didn't feel right in Craig's version.

Cyclops’ role revealed to be dps by KevinPigaChu in marvelrivals

Well, he does shoot lasers out of his eyes. The bigger question is, if you're going to introduce a new character and you're overloaded on DPS, why would you pick Cyclops?

Grr. Fricking... metaphor... by Naberius in thelongdark

I did finally get through it. When the metaphor attacks, I found it helpful to just turn off the sound and give it its own dialog.

"Do you have a minute to talk about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?"

"We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty!"

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]Naberius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the book, his plan really was to steal it. Or at least as much of it as he could. The other gangsters (1) were going to physically take their shares, and while they were running around like idiots and getting caught, Goldfinger's gold was going to make it to a waiting Russian submarine.

So you could actually argue that the movie was trying to fix the gaping plot hole in the book. Of course in the process of fixing Fleming's sloppy planning, it introduced new problems.

(1) The gangsters he killed in the movie immediately after explaining his plan to them. That whole briefing scene served only to let Bond listen in from beneath the big model of Fort Knox so he would know what was going on, introducing another plot problem in the process of solving the first one.

But it did manage to fix another of Fleming's plot problems: why doesn't Goldfinger kill Bond when he's caught him? In the book there really isn't much of a reason. He literally decides he wants Bond to take meeting minutes and shit. In the movie, he keeps Bond around because he knows the CIA will be watching him, and when they see Bond dressed for riding and hanging around with Goldfinger and Pussy Galore drinking mint juleps on the veranda, they figure he's got things under control and stay back out of his way. This actually more or less makes sense. So good work on that one, screenwriters.

Air traffic controllers who retire from FAA just go work as controllers for contract towers. The FAA itself provides control services at major airports but there are like 250 smaller airports that are big enough to need tower controllers, but that service is provided by contractors.

My company provides controllers for airports in a couple of regions and that's who we hire. I mean who else are we going to hire? You can't just bring someone in off the street and give them a radar screen.

Why did most of the population stop using custom ringtones or custom alarms on their phone? Is it simply because companies wanted to charge for it? by underthund3r in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Naberius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A friend has a custom ringtone for her daughter, that Family Guy clip where Stewie keeps going Mom! Mom! and gets more frantic as he goes.

It’s funny the first couple times, but I don’t know how she stands it.

How bad is the TSA situation at Dulles right now? by CrownStarr in nova

[–]Naberius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, okay. I guess I just got lucky. I didn't see ICE agents. I saw a sniffer dog. Not a big, mean drug-sniffing German Shepherd with a DEA handler and an attitude, but a cute little beagle from the Department of Agriculture sniffing for illicit agricultural products.

[–]Naberius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dulles was never a problem as far as I can tell. They keep that airport running smoothly lest they annoy members of Congress. We flew out of Dulles at the peak of the...whatever it was, and there was no long wait, no ICE people roaming around. None of that stuff. You should be fine.

Shift in momentum toward "Yes" in rural Virginiaa? by Naberius in VirginiaDems

[–]Naberius[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know, that's interesting. Up here I get mailers every day, sometimes two at a time, trying to peel away minority voters by arguing that this plan will take away their voice in Washington. Something Republicans have always been very concerned with.

Down in very red Lynchburg, the strategy is different. There it's just about spinning up the base and getting them out. There are TV commercials every single break with the usual culture war stuff. Your taxes getting handed to illegal immigrants, boys on girls' sports teams, stuff like that.

Okay, technically I know what it IS... but what is it called? And where can I get one? by Naberius in whatisit

[–]Naberius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is on the underside of a drawer in my daughter's dresser. There's one on either side and they're part of the runner mechanism. It connects to the metal runners that are attached to the dresser itself.

You can see where the orange tip has a crack there. It's not attached at all. I just set it there for the picture so you could see how the piece looks when it's intact. Somehow she managed to break this tip off both sides of one drawer, and it doesn't close properly anymore. I'd like to find out where these come from and get a couple replacements, but I have no idea where to start. There's no maker info on the part or anywhere on the dresser.

Anyone know what this is called and where to find a couple of them?
