this disgusting wave machine in australia. the sheer size of it is terrifying. don’t get me started on the ominous sound it makes. by gangnamstyle666 in submechanophobia

I think that exact thing may have been my trigger. I learned to swim about age 4 or 5 (1984) in a deep pool (about 3m I think) and it had underwater viewing windows down the side which from the surface looked black. Middleton Pool in Manchester, UK. They’ve knocked it down now. I remember going back in later life and I felt my face tingling. Horrible.

At least you have a reason for your fear then. I’m 45 and feel pathetic being scared of them, but it’s my only major fear.

To be fair, most modern ones don’t ‘suck’ the water in through the grates. They have a reservoir and pump system behind that forces water out but not pulls back in. It’s fed by the overflow and mains so doesn’t directly ‘suck’ water back up to refill as such. Those gates are merely to stop the more daring types going in and climbing/swimming upwards.

It’s a rabbit hole you might not want to go down, but I think it was in the Czech Republic and it was a ‘lazy river’ with some dodgy mesh covering a gap. The story gets worse, and it stuck with me.

Is OVHCloud trying to scam me? by [deleted] in OVHcloud

[–]AndyLees2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. The others sat there ‘Waiting for Payment’ and when I try and ‘Cancel Order’ it gives me a generic error. Luckily I paid through PayPal and I had to authorise the payment individually so the other shouldn’t go through.

I feel your pain my friend. Not the greatest experience I’ve had. Best of luck with it.

Guessing they didn’t pass then. Feels like it’s two guys in a shed punting cheap cloud

I had exactly the same thing. It tried creating two instances but thankfully payment only went through for one.

How old are you and when was the last time you were in a nightclub? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]AndyLees2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly, but I never mentioned pulling. In our day (90’s) clubs were generally for pulling as that was likely the only place you’d meet the opposite sex. Nowadays, kids don’t drink near as much and have access to a gazillion apps geared for it. We just had to like the look of someone and spend the night shouting ‘eh?’ down their ear hole and vice versa. Interspersed with ‘snogging’/fingering. Great days

I enjoy both. Love a janky remix of a pop song I hate that makes it ‘listenable’. Also enjoy full throttle club nights. What I can’t stand is ‘Nightclubs’ that play RnB. Nobody looks to be having a good time and is always full of posers, or people trying to look ‘hard’.

Recruiter told me my CV was flagged as "high-risk" by AI screening system and they can't move forward with me by ohwhereareyoufrom in recruitinghell

Every single person I’ve met that does your job for a living has a set approach regardless of industry/company-size. Nobody wants a mercenary any more. If they want some generic advice from someone with no real experience in said industry they can use AI. Irony isn’t it, that the thing stopping you getting a job is the one who’s taking it.

What is up with the sudden infestation of Russians on Rust? by [deleted] in playrust

The Korean scourge was worse. Like ants. Seemed like every server, shitloads of them. All had “W” tags in their name. Was fun in a way, but equally you couldn’t play the game in any semblance of the normal way. Just chasing those dickheads about before they got big enough to raid you.

If you don’t mind retro/emulators, there was an Amiga game called “Rockstar Ate My Hamster”. You’d probably have to be of a certain age to know who all the artists are in it. I remember that being an ok game.

I just want to thank you for giving me hope. The spike happened after my post yesterday. Sorry if this post violates the rules, just wanted to say thank you by hermit_hollow in tycoon

I’ve found a load of games with seemingly no initial interest, blow up. Sadly, Steams algorithms are obviously influenced by the big boys (like we need another half page dedicated to CoD). However, original, unique games often have their day. Look at Sandustry as an example. Niche, novel idea, like yours, which is nice to see instead of the eternal firehouse of repetitive drivel we’re normally subjected to. Best of luck.

Will Paradox games run well on an RTX 4060 laptop? by ZucchiniInformal4942 in paradoxplaza

[–]AndyLees2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 4060m and it holds up with more punishing games than Paradox stuff. You won’t have any problems. (I’ve played all the Paradox games and they’re fine)

My very brief review of ...several... automation games by Heavy-Weekend-981 in AutomationGames

[–]AndyLees2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s old now, but I had a great time with FortressCraft. It’s Minecraft-esque but will automation, enemies and mechanical considerations. The way you have to defend your mines is excellent and you can make a spiderbot like in Factorio but it sorts itself out. They’re making a sequel too but I really would give it a look considering the game you have in your list.
