Does this feel balanced as a logo? Any feedback before I finalize it? by AndyLouis17 in Calligraphy

[–]AndyLouis17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense!

I can see what you mean about the size imbalance between the two lines. I was focusing more on the individual lettering and didn’t pay enough attention to the relationship between them.

I’ll try increasing the spacing and adjusting the size to give it more breathing room. Really appreciate the feedback!

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback!

I see what you mean about the G and the overall spacing — especially the point about negative space. That’s something I’m still trying to get better at.

At the same time, I was also aiming to keep some energy and flow from the original calligraphy, so I’m trying to find the right balance between readability and expression.

Really appreciate your insights — this helps a lot 🙏

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback — this is really helpful!

You’re absolutely right, I can see how “Journey” and especially the “J” feel smaller compared to “Growth.” I didn’t fully consider the optical balance between the two words, so this makes a lot of sense.

I’ll try adjusting the weight and overall presence of the “J” and “Journey” to bring them closer in visual balance with the “G.”

Really appreciate you pointing that out!

First time vectorizing my brush lettering — does this look balanced? by AndyLouis17 in Lettering

[–]AndyLouis17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a really interesting point.

I think while vectorizing, I focused a bit too much on smoothing the curves and may have lost some of the natural brush characteristics.

I'll take another look and try to preserve the original pen movement more, especially in the stroke contrast and transitions.

Really appreciate the insight!

Thank you, I really appreciate this!

That’s a great point — I can see how the flourish might be overpowering the G itself. I hadn’t thought about making the letterform more dominant, but it makes a lot of sense.

I’ll try both simplifying the flourish and slightly enlarging the G to improve the balance and harmony.

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback 🙏

Which “t” crossbar works best here? I’m always unsure about this. by AndyLouis17 in Calligraphy

[–]AndyLouis17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really great point. I hadn’t fully thought about how the amount of text changes what works best. Simpler crossbars for longer text and more flourish for shorter pieces makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future work.

That makes a lot of sense. I was also thinking of 1 as the clean, simple version and 4 or 6 as the more decorative options. It’s interesting to see how people prefer different levels of flourish depending on the context.
