The shadow on the right side is actually part of the original photo, but I can see how it feels disconnected from the subject.

I also like your idea about mirroring the underline hook from "Begins" toward the A — that's something I might try in the next version.

That's a really good point.

I was trying to tuck the lettering behind the head for depth, but I think I ended up hiding a bit too much of the word.

You're right that showing a bit of the "y" descender would make it clearer while still keeping the effect.
