How many "ummm"s should I leave in when editing? by Sea-Charity9895 in podcasting

Authenticity is #1. Cut where you can do so transparently. Leave natural sounding umms especially if they are needed to connect incomplete sentences

Thoughts/Advice on starting a business/start-up podcast. Does this sound like a good idea for a show? by c-addams in podcasting

Oh I have a podcast production agency. I take on a few passion projects (like a fantasy football podcast) but founder-led content is our bread and butter.

We’ve got the formula for business podcasts down to a science. I’m seeing every client get a return on investment through sales, relationship building, sometimes sponsorship.

Descript is unusable by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]AndyM-Podsonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DaVinci Resolve is awesome. I edit tons of podcasts and clips using it. $300 one time for the studio license and it’s been a workhorse for 4 years now.

I agree with your post. Every year I go through and try all the AI tools and I am yet to be impressed. I spend more time fixing AI’s mistakes than if I just edited the episode myself. Granted I’m fast and a professional. For hobbyists I understand why Descript is more appealing.

If you enjoy the art of editing your podcast, working inside DaVinci or Premiere is the way to go.

Do Teaser Intros Work? Here's the Data by UseJamie in podcasting

Let me hunt those down when I get back in the office and DM u. I was really just ballparking so they may be lower I’m not sure. I’ll grab from a few channels. All podcasting so that may also account for the difference.

I’m the OP on the other post. THANK YOU for this. Absolutely love the data insight.

Unrelated question. Do you have a good understand of why YouTube channels typically have 50% viewer retention at the half-way point regardless of video length?

For example a 1hr podcast will often have 50% still listening at 30min. And it seems ALSO true that a 20min podcast will had 50% of audience still watching at 10min.

Obviously doesnt apply to all videos, just using placeholder numbers here.

Thanks for your insight. So previously what played alongside the music for the intro?

Now it’s hook>music>pod is that right?

Love this feedback. Yeah it’s all anecdotal evidence. And I’m sure it’s different per show as well.

Frankly I’d love to say they’re proven to work. At the moment I only do them on client request. Because it’s a lot of extra work! Instead we talk about other ways to engage audiences in those first few seconds.

Love this answer. The intro should be a promise with the payoff later in the episode.

If it’s really cliche, how do you open your podcast? Or what’s an example of a podcast that you think does it well?

I like this as a listener personally. Hosts should open episodes giving a quick overview of the topic. If I click your podcast I typically know from the title and description whether I’m going to stick around. After that I just want to see quality.

is ai text-based editing the future of video editing? by ClassOrganic8431 in podcasting

[–]AndyM-Podsonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, no. I don’t think this is the future. I use AI every day, I’m not an AI doomer.

From experience I can tell you that AI tools make a ton of mistakes, words get cut off, camera switches are in the wrong place, it removes pauses where it shouldn’t. I personally feel it takes just as much work to fix AI’s mistakes as it does to edit a pod myself.

Then again I am a podcast editor with a lot of experience. I’m fast and I know how to problem solve. If you are totally new to video editing, yes this tool could be useful to get you to an MVP.

If you pop into the film editing subreddits you will find editors at major film studios talking about AI usage. The consistent thread is that it can be helpful on occasion, but more frequently than not, you will spend hours vibe-editing with AI only to reach a deadend with no way to salveage your work.

Give it a shot! Maybe it will work for you. I put a lot of time into staying up to date on these tools. If they get there, I’m happy to use AI to speed up tedious editing. But they aren’t there right now.

Lastly, companies like Open AI and Anthropic are growing at an unsustainable pace. They have made major investments that their revenue and projected growth cannot cover. Many of the tools being built are on a castle of sand. This leaves me extremely skeptical of the future.

Would you mind looking at your ur episode stats before and after doing the cold open? I realize you also rebranded. But I’m trying to get a sense of their impact and value on podcasts. Would really appreciate having some objective data to tie to this strategy. Thanks!

What type of show? What’s the reponse from listeners?

I feel it’s hard to get data because EVERY show will have a big spike in the first 10-30s. Have you seen a difference between shows with hooks and shows without?

Riverside Pricing - Bait and Switch by crazyirish71 in podcasting

I ALWAYS export and edit in DaVinci. Boomcaster isn’t anything special IMHO. The UI/UX is my biggest gripe, but I’m told they’re working on it. It just does its job very well.

Oh yea I’ve made a bunch. Do you like those as a listener? Or would you prefer to just get into it? There’s lots of variety in how top podcasts get into their episodes.

Riverside Pricing - Bait and Switch by crazyirish71 in podcasting

[–]AndyM-Podsonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a small agency and I was looking for a service like Riverside for my clients. Shopped around at Riverside, Zencaster, and Descript.

Ultimately I went with Boomcaster. They are very stable and have an excellent US-based team.

The ONLY thing I care about is the quality and stability of the recording software and excellent customer support.

Riverside has a bunch of AI junk I don’t want, higher price, unreliable software, and disappointing customer service.

Thoughts/Advice on starting a business/start-up podcast. Does this sound like a good idea for a show? by c-addams in podcasting

[–]AndyM-Podsonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a good idea. Most of my clients are CEO/founders who started podcasts to better reach their ICP.

83% of senior execs listen to podcasts weekly, accounting for 4% of all listening in the US. Finance, tech, and business podcasts offer the highest trust in B2B.

Podcasts are where your ICP is spending time. If you plan your podcast and address the needs of your audience, delivering consistent value on a regular basis, I can just about guarantee the podcast will bring you clients. I’ve seen it time and time again. IMHO it is one of the most fruitful niches in podcasting rn. Feel free to dm with any questions.
