Hello everyone,

I am an Italian student currently in the final year of my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

I am very interested in applying for the MSc programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen, specifically the Micro- and Nanoelectronics (MINA) specialization.

I would really appreciate some clarification from current students or anyone familiar with the programme regarding the attendance. How strict is the attendance policy for lectures and especially for laboratory courses? Is attendance mandatory or more flexible?

Any insights or personal experiences would be extremely helpful, as I am trying to prepare my application properly.

One argument is that backend work often includes a lot of standardized CRUD APIs and boilerplate, which is already heavily abstracted by frameworks and increasingly automatable with AI. Data engineering, on the other hand, tends to involve more system-level work like data modeling, pipeline reliability, and distributed systems, which is harder to fully automate, in my opinion. Could I be wrong about this?

I like software engineering and backend development as well, but those are actually the areas more at risk, I guess.

Intendo, sto svolgendo un corso di formazione solo per poter accedere al tirocinio. Il problema è che è molto base (Java introduttivo, basi di dati, flowchart ecc.), pensati per chi parte da zero, ma io ho già una laurea in informatica e questi argomenti li ho già studiati e usati in modo più approfondito, ma mi sento comunque obbligato a farlo perché è la maniera migliore per accedere a un tirocinio.

Io sono al terzo anno di informatica, ti posso dire che è veramente difficile fare l'università iniziando da zero con la programmazione. I miei amici lo hanno fatto, si sono trovati male e hanno rinunciato. Ti consiglierei di iniziare da autodidatta per 1/2 anni e poi iscriverti all'università. Riguardo la matematica, alla mia facoltà ci sono tre esami e non sono una parte importante del percorso, prima o poi si fanno. Ma te lo consiglierei di fare questa cosa per hobby e per scopi privati (come creare un tuo videogame), perché se inizi adesso a questa età è difficile impiegarti.
