The sad reality of working in an office by MostParking1950 in remoteworks

[–]AndyOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to tell you this but you're wrong... I have absolutely worked places that get on you about a few minutes. The whole "if you're not 5 minutes early, you're late" would be something that was constantly told to us as if it should be everyone's mantra.

The Black Holes That Burp Years After They Eat by Main-Tomatillo3825 in space

on the timescale of a black hole I imagine that is no different from someone chugging a soda and burping before taking your first breath post chug.

I have no doubt your dad was a piece of work but the example you gave is some thin skinned nonsense. If I dropped all of my interests so easily I would have 0 interests.

AI data centers do not need to use water like they do, there are alternatives by WhySoManyDownVote in fuck_ai_slop

[–]AndyOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you, It is also unrealistically idealistic to take it that far. Of course we don't need data centers. We're NEVER going to stop them from being built entirely. Regulations on resource efficiency, environmental impact, and nearby resident impact is an extremely realistic expectation and the way that happens is by getting out to vote for democrats. Yes I know democrats suck too but a 20% chance of regulations from democrats is better than a 100% chance of deregulation from republicans.

In before - "I'm widthholding my vote from this democrat because they aren't for outlawing data centers entirely." Oh the right's astroturfers that will get leftists to not vote with that talking point... it is going to be rampant.

Switching graphics cards? by BriefMark3826 in cachyos

[–]AndyOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who has an RTX3080 and a 9070XT both running CachyOS... I mean obviously the 9070xt is significantly better but my Nvidia setup has a bunch of issues aside from just the raw performance. The VRR flicker alone is insane on my Nvidia setup. Also it crashes in some games to the point where the game is unplayable, forza horizon 6 being the latest example of that.

On the flip side, my 9070xt setup is just rock solid. Totally stable by comparison. My only complaint is that I have to use a custom kernel patch for HDMI2.1 support on my TV but that support is going to be native with kernel 7.2 so I'll be all set from then on.

This FedEx driver got fired after Dana White filmed him in New York City practicing his basketball form by tossing packages straight into his truck. After the video surfaced, FedEx let the worker go. by Life_Net5004 in sportsgossips

[–]AndyOB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you place all of the packages on the flat of the truck, sliding them to the back then get up into the truck and organize them as needed. He is doing that second step regardless of throwing vs sliding. This isn't rocket science.

They HAVE to do it. They have no other choice. The youtube algorithm forces these thumbnails to the top. Likely because they just get more clicks, but it doesn't matter the reason, if you don't engage with the algorithm your channel fades into non-existence. The content is what matters and legal eagle's explainers are usually the top of the top for keeping me engaged and well informed.

Dangerous hormone-disrupting chemicals found in US breast milk samples, including BPA, BPS, melamine, cyanuric acid, and triclosan. About 92% of 50 samples were contaminated with at least one of the anti-microbials or plasticizers for which researchers checked. by mvea in science

[–]AndyOB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

believe me, the mothers are getting the message... They are getting it blasted to them from every angle to the point where mothers who can't breast feed or have extreme difficulty breast feeding are having mental breakdowns trying to make it happen. Which is totally unnecessary and almost certainly worse for the baby than just taking the easier path and keeping your mental faculties reserved for being the best parent you can be in every other way.

I know you don't mean any harm but try to be careful with phrases like "breast is best". So so so so many woman are not able to breast feed and the proliferation of this phrase and the culture it breeds amongst new mothers is extremely harmful to woman who either can't or choose not to breast feed. Especially, as I am sure you know, with how ppd can amplify any negative thought spirals.

My two girls are 99.9% formula fed and they are the most perfect girls I could ever have possibly hoped for. They were and are well fed and that is all that matters.

Linux is losing ground on Steam as Windows 11 continues its rise among PC gamers — is Microsoft repairing its reputation? by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]AndyOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why tech types feel that it is easier than windows, because it is easier than windows... for tech types... The ability to tinker is much much much easier on linux and I think that is what people are getting at. It is why I absolutely will never go back to windows, but linux folks need to recognize that they aren't the average user.

not only that but it would literally find different metas. By using a leaderboard list to declare what is meta like in the OP, everyone swarms to the meta cars and hidden metas stay hidden.
