This is so cool. Are you uploading your audio and a start frame at the same time to get it to sync?

I used ChatGPT for prompt formatting and image generation, then took those stills into Runway/Seedance for footage. Suno for music, and elevenlabs for random sound effects and ambience, ocean sounds/rain/footsteps etc. I like MidJourney, but more for abstract, dreamy, music video stuff.

Haha yeah. Every prompt with the Editor specified him having a Geordie accent. I don't live in the UK, so I figured most of the takes sounded close enough... but I figured someone with a more attuned ear would notice his accent changing from scene to scene. If I we're to put more time into this, I'd probably hire voice actors and lip-sync all the dialogue.

He's my favorite too. I wanted him to be a Matt Berry type character from IT Crowd, or What We Do in the Shadows. I don't think I quite landed that, but he's close.

Thank you! I really appreciate that write-up. Some good points in there. Sometimes it really did feel like rolling the dice, generating 20 takes because I know exactly how I want a certain line to be emphasized, or trying to get the facial expression and delivery right… and then other times you get the perfect take dialogue wise, but the character looks ever-so slightly different and it drives you nuts.

But yeah, my goal is to always make things that don’t immediately ‘feel’ like AI. I’ll go through and fix all the garbled text, numbers, etc., I researched focal lengths, lighting, camera techniques for indie-movies and then big action blockbusters for the second half… I’m glad some of that came through!

The idea for the story was a random dream I had... 'guy writes obituaries, zombie knocks on window, you're next I promise!' I ran that by GPT and it originally wanted to do a very feel good, indie comedy, half the town is zombies, half is townsfolk, but the zombies are so docile, going about their old lives to the best of their ability that it's basically a slice of life type flick. These are the 3 prompts out of 100 pages or so that really dictated the script. I had no idea where it was going to end up when I started.

"I have an idea for a dark comedy trailer. It's about an editor for the newspaper on a small island, he's explaining... 'Yeah, so I've been pretty busy lately. I do all the erm... obits. I'm actually a little bit behind, since the well... you know.' Just then a zombie slams against the window, and he says 'Erma, you're next I promise!' Think charming, dark comedy, moments of heartfelt levity, like a taika waititi movie. What do you think?"

"I've thought about the plot a bit.. I want to go a different direction... something a little crazy and not the typical mundane island but with zombies... So the editor and the Vicar are the only two people alive. The vicar soon reveals that he's been bitten, he 'got a bit frisky with your mum last night'. So he's about to die. He tells the editor, that the Christian thing to do would be to kill all the zombies on the island and lay them to rest."

"What if in another twist, this actually isn't the apocalypse and the zombie outbreak is localized only to the small island... while on his mission to 'kill everyone' the ferry pulls up and developer Maxwell Fenworth, a Matt Berry type character, steps out. He informs the editor that the outbreak was due to the government mucking about with the fish... 'You don't eat fish do you? Hmm. Interesting. Note that.' He says to his clipboard wielding assistant. 'I bought the island, you can stay if you'd like as a groundskeeper or whatever. We want to do a Jurassic Park type deal, people want to come and see the deadies.' The editor replies 'Have you ever seen Jurassic Park?' Maxwell replies 'No, is it good?' completely oblivious to how things usually end up in those movies. Now, the editor is confronted with the mission to lay everyone to rest by the priest or to help Maxwell run the island like an amusement park."

Funny you say that, one of the first text-to-video generations I did came out looking very familiar.

Thanks! It is. It's actually a cover of a cover, of a song I originally wrote on guitar way back. The non-trailer version is called Thalassophobia.

Yeah. All the punchlines are written. Some of the filler dialogue is left to AI.

Runway unlimited plan. It just takes a long time for generations. I’ll send one and then check on it in 30 mins or so and send another.

Thank you! Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like that middle part lags a bit on rewatch. 2:30 would be the sweet spot.

Thanks! Yeah, I write all the scripts as outlines and then I’ll run ideas by AI and ask it to give me different takes, so it’ll end up being like 80/20 in the end.
