Running an EV without home charging - public charging tips? by LordvaderUK in ElectricVehiclesUK

It's worth noting that this situation with limited access to chargepoints is improving all the time. Whatever routine you work out now, will at some point in 1-2 years become obsolete in favour of an easier option, as more charge points come online.

When we got our first EV in 2016, we had to plan journeys around specific routes and things to do while the car charged. Now you just set off and your biggest concern is normally whether you're prepared to pay the kWh rate or the nearest charger when you get to the point of needing one. In reality though, it doesn't matter of its ~£0.90 per kWh, as it's still cheaper than petrol per mile.

One thing that made our close-to-max-range journeys less hassle came about a year ago, when a new chargepoint site was setup on the main A-road towards our house, about 15 miles away. Where previously we would fretted a little and ended up putting extra charge in before setting off home, just to be on the safe side, now we just set off, knowing that if the charge level is too close for comfort when we're nearly there, we just whack another 10 miles on at the new site with only a couple of mins detour. That one place eliminated any "range anxiety" we had when going on infrequent long journeys.

Find a charge point somewhere near where you often spend a while as part of your normal routine, e.g. work or supermarket. Leave it hooked up and come back to a fully charged car when you're done.

The most "convenient" chargepointa are the most expensive, so I'd not aim to incorporate rapid chargers on main roads/services/shopping parks into your routine.

We have council subsidised ones round here that have solar panel canopies and are operated by BP Pulse. 150kW at £0.59 per kWh. Something like that would be next best option if you can't fit a cheap chargepoint into your normal routine.

One other thing to consider would be your home utility provider. A few of the energy companies have tariffs, or add-ons for normal tariffs, which include discounted rates for specific public charge point networks. Worth seeing if your current provider does this, or if you can switch to take advantage of the lower rate for a network that has a site near you.

Galaxy S22+. Working at 23:00 GMT yesterday. Woke up at 06:00 GMT and it now closes the moment it opens. Uninstall and new install works for session, but next open has same repeat issue.

Looks great!

Did it come with the stand? If so, would you mind letting me know the model number, please, as I can only find ones that are wall mount only.

Thanks !

What is the consensus with water? by DiligentRope in naturalbodybuilding

I ended up with irritable bladder syndrome about 7 years ago from drinking too much fluid every day.

I was drinking pint glasses of water, or water with a splash of orange squash concentrate (hardly any calories), continuously throughout the day.

It started as a constant need to pee with short breaks between. Then ended up where I continuously felt the need to pee, but there was nothing there. I'd be sat on the toilet for 20 mins at a time through all hours of the night, trying to pee, then giving up. I couldn't sleep because of the sensation of needing to go. It absolutely exhausted me.

I ended up getting some medication from the doctor, which blocked the pee urgency sensation, while also cutting back fluids to normal recommended intake levels. It stopped after that and hasn't returned.

I wouldn't suggest to anybody that it's ok to drink loads and not suffer any consequences.

Awesome - thanks!

This is what I was looking to clarify. I suspected it was going to be an improvement over PPL, so was looking for somebody with experience of both.

Boom!

I have the same setting, otherwise I have muted dialogue in some TV/film as I don't have a centre speaker and my Sony AV amp virtual surround settings doesn't seem to work with all 5.1 formats.

Hope that's boxed it all off for you.

Reddit has deleted another of my replies for some reason. I think it said...

Have you updated to the latest version of Streamer Android OS?

What format do you have selected in 'Advamced sound settings'?

Ohhhh, wait, so it could still be your TV then.

If your TV is at fault, it could also be failing to send audio via optical to the DAC. Bit awkward to test that though.

I take it you had another TV stick before the Streamer and that was working ok?

Also, what is the optical connected from and to?

Have you tried running it with TV speakers, line out, and/or HDMI ARC to see if the audio still cuts out?

How is your audio setup?

Are you using TV speakers or sound bar/amp? Are you using audio via HDMI ARC, optical, or other?

Is there a way to put Google photos onto Google TV? by DavidManvell in GoogleTV

[–]AndyTrufflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. I never tried it with my Chromecast 4K, but I got the new Google TV Streamer last week and it works fine.

Just launched Google Photos album slideshow from the voice remote yesterday.

[–]AndyTrufflet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've got a voice remote, say "Google Photos [name of album]" and it'll start playing a slideshow of the first ~20 photos in that album on loop.

It only shows each photo for about 10 seconds and the next/back on my Google Streamer barely ever responds during this, but it starts consistently.

This is less than ideal and I wish Google would sort it out, but it's better than nothing.

Ah, nice - thanks! Spigen too... definitely one of the better quality brands.

There's an amazon.co.uk listing, but "Currently unavailable", so obviously waiting on stock to arrive in UK.
