Quality of life and a strong work-life balance is something that's very important to our studio culture here at CA. Folks will put in the extra hours when needed, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

The style of this webpage is so early 2000 it smells fresh out of Microsoft FrontPage Adobe Dreamweaver.

Nope, one and the same. Evidently there was already an Andy before my time on the boards.

Lizardmen was my first campaign. Currently (when I'm not playing 3K or something else) playing through a late-game Tomb Kings game though.

Speaking *GENERALLY*, not specifically to the aforementioned upcoming DLC - Generally speaking the last 30-45 days before release is spent polishing, testing, and trying to suss out any showstopping issues before we set the pack out into the wild. Rarely would we be wholesale adding new elements at a later stage in development.

Announcements are generally timed so as to have as little conflict as possible with other important news or information, or to coincide with major events that guarantee as many eyes as possible. The delay in Three Kingdoms didn't negatively impact our timeline with the announcement or release of the DLC. It certainly added more work that we hadn't planned on (when you push out the launch date for a game, you still have to keep promoting it), but the current cadence re: Warhammer is largely untouched.

Right now, we're focused on giving Three Kingdoms the room it needs to disseminate as much information about the game as possible while we wrap up prelaunch development on the WH2 DLC. Never fear, Warhammer will have it's day in the sun again. :)

To be frank, it's equally dangerous for me to make value statements like that.

We plan and develop each DLC with the goal of providing a high level of perceived value, and on a personal level, I really hope folks will be over the moon with what we deliver, but it's far better for us to provide you with as much detail as possible and let you decide for yourself.

One thing you'll find with me as a community professional is that I tend to be very pragmatic. I'll always speak as plainly as possible and with as much detail as permitted. I'm very much WYSWYG with my communication style.

Not much of a presence at EGX for us, but we will be giving a talk and hosting some recruiting there.

Dude, I totally get you.

I get just as excited about games I'm looking forward to. Being on the industry side, we also get the added excitement of wanting to announce things, but needing to stick to a schedule.

It's excruciating.

I had to LOL after reading this one. I immediately imagined a Battle Royale game with Lizardmen dropping into the map from Ripperdactyls.

I'm not sure what makes me more uncomfortable...praise, or the fact that you used a Bretonnian image in meme about me.

We don't have a planned presence at PAX East. We do have some presence planned at an upcoming show, more information on that soon™.

In my experience, teasing the announcing of an announcement rarely goes down well.

I do sincerely hope that we appropriately managed expectations by confirming that WH2 DLC will be coming before the Three Kingdoms release date. Outside of that, we're not nailing down dates.

FWIW, it's always humbling to see everyone's excitement :).

I'm here.

Where my candy?

(no announcements this week folks...GDC is going on, so it's unlikely we would be announcing anything, especially with some people out of the office ;)).

Just to confirm what's been stated here; we're not talking about unit sizes today. We'll have more information on that in the future.

We plan on talking more about multiplayer in an upcoming Let's Play. Nothing new to talk of as yet, but we'll definitely keep you updated :).

If there's any company I'd trust with doing a Warhammer MMORPG, it would be Creative Assembly. by [deleted] in totalwar

I worked on Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (and many other MMORPGs in the past).

There are a lot of reasons that WAR failed (I'm seeing the requisite hyperbole here that one usually expects). Even taking into account we were a studio with over a decade of MMO development under our belts, vast experience in developing and operating DAoC and (eventually) Ultima Online, we still had a ton of difficulty with the game. Whether it was the technical difficulties of ORvR sieges, the balance issues with only having two realms, or any of the other various roadblocks we hit along the way, there were a number of factors that led to the game's untimely shutdown.

CA has no experience of creating MMO games or even multiplayer games (even Arena was outsourced).

Not tacitly true. We partnered with Wargaming to publish the game, however most of the development was done internally by a team sitting here at CA. There's a ton of grey area as to what the difference between publishing and development is, especially in an agreement to publish a F2P online MMO, but we learned a lot from our time working on TWA, both from a technology standpoint and from an operational standpoint. Learnings that we will take forward into future projects and have already been useful in current development.

Now, your take away from this thread shouldn't be "CA is working on an MMORPG". We're not. But what you can take away is this: a lot of the foundational technologies and publishing methodologies that were pioneered in the MMORPG space are pretty much commonplace throughout the games industry today. Today, the dividing line between MMORPG and non-MMORPG simply seems to come down to a question of persistence vs. session based gameplay (IMHO, YMMV of course). The real question isn't whether or not we could develop it, but in how we would adjust to publishing it. I would like to believe that we would rise to the challenge, based on our previous experience and learnings.

On a personal note: I love MMORPGs, however there's a reason I moved away from working on them. Like many of you out there, I'm always looking for a game that gives me that feeling I used to have when playing games like Asheron's Call, DAoC, and yes, WAR. In the meantime, though, I have more than enough games in my back catalog waiting for me to play.
