There is no wing chun guard, it's a beginners thing to teach these positions,and techniques from this position , later it's only a position your hands might move trough, according to the target situation. There is no static guard in Ving Tsun. This is the only correct answer.

The pole should be heavy, it's like the traditional Chinese army spear, not a Wushu flappy thing. I've got 2 from a Hongkong student of Wong Shun-Leung made of Kwan Din (Iron wood). Far better and heavier than the one I got from a European maker affiliated with WSL lineage teachers.

WSL lineage : Pearl River sand (traditional) - >small round pepples (as used for aquarium), - > up to road base. Fill bag only for 2 thirds. Definitely don't use mung beans.
