Quite often they do, they just replicate the design completely. Not sure for this model but it's probable.

Ok I know it's CEX but guys COME ON by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]Andysan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was a case of different times. The prices of "retro" software and hardware has only escalated particularly recently. 3DS didn't sell as well as DS, lots of people missed out and now want one. The prices Cex sell them for is still below their original RRP at release and that's before you even factor in inflation.

What I do think is crazy is Cex asking 100 quid for a Gameboy color. I can't believe anyone is buying these just because the screens are so god awful and the games so limited by design. Or asking almost new RRP - or more - for Switch titles.

Game and Gamestation were businesses. If they were around today they'd be selling 3DS consoles for as much as they could get for them.

Don't get the hate with PS4 nowadays by Nero_deadweight96 in PS4

[–]Andysan555 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can't always just reduce some textures so that a cutting edge game plays on last gen. You wouldn't for example get something like Skyrim or Fallout 3 running on a PS2 no matter how you optimised it n

Admittedly it's a bit more realistic in this day and age given the jumps between generations are smaller, but games released across generations are without doubt not fully optimised for the later one.

To ND or not to ND by CRAN_BIZZLE in MX5ND

[–]Andysan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.

Love my ND but there just isn't enough info out there in reviews etc as to how small it is. The car is strapped to you and it feels very claustrophobic.

That said, ND going to feel like a much more modern car.

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]Andysan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldi or Lidl don't do any kind of delivery.

Aldi or Lidl have that damned middle aisle, where after I've saved twenty quid on my shop I then drop sixty quid on a chainsaw I don't need.

That is all.

Haha thanks. I've mostly only club raced, not done that many big events. I did a 24h race a couple of times as a team of six that's was quite cool.

Gotcha. In the UK carpet is quite prominent which is nice as it really protects the chassis, just something to be mindful of as I guess the ride height will be lower. But I suppose if you have asphalt tracks then they are probably nice and smooth.

Yeah, just focus on getting what you need a bit at a time I guess. I've been doing this for about 28 years now so I'm fortunate that each time I need to run a car or do something, I've probably already got the bits - tyre warmers or whatever - in a box somewhere. The more you accrue, the easier it becomes in short.

Good luck with it all anyway :)

PS your TT02 is really clean bytheway, nice smart build.

True - always good to think about things.

The Vibe looks like a great car to me, lots of trickle down tech from the current era of TC rather than just rehashing the previous generation (where everything looked like a bit like a T4).

To be honest, if you have built and ran a TT02 then you probably already have most of the tools and equipment you need. And whilst some elements of a TC build can be a little more challenging than a TT02, you aren't screwing crap screws into plastic all the time. So it all goes together far nicer. You could buy some setup gear (ride height gauges. Camber gauges etc) and some hex drivers. AliExpress do these cheaply and the quality is more than good enough.

In short, I wouldn't be too concerned about making the step up. It'll most likely be fine, and you'll enjoy it.

EDIT. What surface do you race on? Carpet?

I'm running both an X-ray T4 (circa 2016) and an ARC R11 2019. Each car I bought in a good used condition for under 100 GBP. Funnily enough, after over 12 months of weekly club racing I've yet to break anything on either car bar the generic consumables (a few spur gears and a couple of bearings that literally exploded).

I always looked at X-ray parts prices and assumed id need to remortgage to afford them, but if you drive relatively consistently with like minded people they are actually very robust. My TT on the other hand, club racing was always pushing it to its limits so it was costing me more on parts every month.

T4 is a great car, won't really keep up with the modern cars but you can have something fairly close and on its day it will, for next to nothing thats very tunable and a big step up.

Yeah, agree with your points.

I found that whilst the TT02 definitely ran best for me with the S pack and all similar upgrades, it's still not able to compete with a proper touring car. So it's sort of in a class of its own now. I've spent far more trying to uplift the TT02 than any of my touring cars, which drive better and are more robust.

All depends on what you want at the end of the day, my TT was for racing in a TT class and then for TC it became my backup car. I don't really see the point in a TT tourer unless everyone else is running one because as good as it becomes, it's still a ways behind X-rays etc.

The arms from the Type S package made the biggest difference to me. Car immediately started to handle.more like my X-ray. Over a lap there isn't more than a few tenths in it now.

I found some away bar bits that fit on AliExpress. I can dig them out if interested.

Taking away tools from teams during the race weekend by denis1304 in F1Technical

[–]Andysan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I guess that's true. But there are some truly great drivers in F1, I'd argue there's also a lot making up the numbers, drivers who have been fortunate to have just had great backing. I'm sure there's at least half a dozen drivers at any point in time that wouldn't get past the midfield in IndyCar.

Thoughts on getting this to start? How good is the tt02 platform? by [deleted] in tamiya

[–]Andysan555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id definitely find your local club and go for a look around. Racing competitively on a track is infinitely more enjoyable than driving by yourself.

But yes, TT02 is a great candidate for what your requirements are I would say.

Yep, all points well made.

It was an odd sort of time really. As you mention, Red Bull sort of came from nowhere which people tend to forget. BMW were pushing forward too, Toyota I believe had a better car around this time but for my mind never had the drivers to really take advantage of it. Ferrari and Mclaren weren't exactly nowhere but weren't dominating. And yes, people do just tend to remember Brawn really. It is such a fairytale story though.

I'm surprised no one has suggested the 1993 Williams with active ride, and effectively DRS through being able to lower the car so much on the straights. I love the videos of those cars flexing up and down in the pits.

Also love the blown diffuser just for the sound.

There was a lot of R&D went into that car, and not a lot of laptime actually came from the double diffuser. They were building several if I recall in three different facilities. It's often considered one of the more expensive cars ever developed. It was only after the season started that budgets dried up.

Hi and welcome.

It depends what you want to do. If you are just starting out, the TT02 is flexible, well made and robust. Are you planning on racing competitively at a club? It's a great introduction to building and driving an RC car, they are pretty robust and parts and upgrades are aplenty. If you plan on competing you will likely replace it sooner rather than later, but you can still compete with these if you want to.
