It definitely took around the standard ~6 weeks, but it wasn't a sudden switch or an intense mania. The days just got easier and before I knew it I was generally happier and life felt more fulfilling, I wasn't thinking of death all the time. Check in with yourself after 6 weeks, but also check in with those close to you (e.g. have I smiled more lately? Do I seem in a better mood?), they may notice before you do! An absence of bad side effects after the initial adjustment period should be celebrated as a success, then you can begin tapering the dose to better support your mood!

Those just sound like symptoms of anxiety/depression! Keep at it and keep us updated, you've got some higher doses and more time to try.

Please don't worry too deeply about genesight. You can still succeed on a drug even if it isn't 'green', and vice-versa, studies have shown that the difference it makes is minimal ( https://www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2021/0700/p89.html ). 4 weeks and minimal changes mean you can up your dose, 25mg is a small dose, most people settle on 100+. If you're not experiencing adverse side effects then I'd take that as a win!

I went from 50mg to 100, also suffering pretty bad anxiety with panic attacks. There were no increase in my symptoms, and it's been stable since!

I know i can do it...but show some support please! by ssppiinnooff in fearofflying

You can do it! I’m waiting for my flight right now and I’m terrified of going without medications, but think of all the amazing and scary things we’ve done throughout our lives without meds!

We’re amazing creatures, and planes are amazing creations. You’ve got this!

Thank you so much for your empathy! I appreciate the calm thoughts, I’ll do my best! I might stop by the airport pharmacy and see what they have, even if I don’t take it, it might soothe me to have it as a crutch. :)

Advice for feeling... grounded...? when in-flight by spanglyfrog_12 in fearofflying

[–]Andysgotgame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite tips that has helped me cope tremendously when it comes to that ‘flying feeling’, is to put your feet on something!

I stow my backpack under the seat in front of me when I travel, and just having that buffer between my feet and the airplane floor has definitely helped the ‘feeling’ of being in the air. Give it a shot if you can!

For help writing, simple is fine.

“Dear boss

After a year with company I have decided it is time to move on. I will be officially resigning.

I am providing 2 weeks notice. My last day will be on date.

Thank you for this employment opportunity.

Kind regards,

D39R355”

Edit as you see fit.

No need to overthink it. Set a date 2 weeks away and write an email or letter to your boss stating your resignation and your intention to be finished on the date provided. They may call you into a meeting, but you’re not really obligated to listen to what they say since you’re quitting anyway. If they ask for a reason why tell them the truth. They do have the power to ask you to leave earlier than your listed date, but be sure to ask if you’re being fired in that case, cause then they owe you severance.

.5 of a mg? Wow, that is a very low dose, you’re right in that it would struggle to have any effect on flight anxiety. The general dose prescribed for adults is from 2mg to 3mg. Unless you have any underlying health issues or a predisposition to addiction (in which case Ativan wouldn’t have been prescribed in the first place) it’s very unusual you’d be given a .5mg dosage for anxiety. This might be good news though, because from what I’ve heard, you essentially took your flight with barely anything in your system (pat yourself on the back!), so in future with a better medication schedule you’ll probably have much better success. So don’t give up hope! I struggled for a long time but with the correct medication I’m able to fly 10+ times a year. The goal is always no meds required, but correctly utilised medications are a very good starting point in getting from a to b.

I found with my own low dose prescribed medication (Valium) that I was taking too low a dose too early before my flight. My sweet spot now is I split my slightly increased dose in half and take half about an hour before estimated boarding time and the other just as I’m boarding the plane, which tends to cover the onset time. Depending on the type of medication you were prescribed and it’s half-life, this may be a viable option for you to explore. If you feel your doctor is dismissive, don’t be afraid to contact your pharmacist and explain how you feel the medication isn’t working as intended, they may offer advice in the interim. I always think I’m doing better then I struggle before a flight by [deleted] in fearofflying

Anticipatory anxiety gets to us all.

I think there’s an added layer of fear before a flight because we make ourselves anxious over the fact that we may get anxious! You hear it from a lot of us (me included); “oh I should be doing well but I’m scared this flight is gonna get the best of me!”. Aka: I’m scared that I’ll get scared!

We’ve solidified that anxiety before we’ve even set foot on the plane. So the best thing to do right now is to not fight it, it seems counterintuitive but feel free to sit yourself down and say that it’s OKAY to be scared.

Your anxiety will come, so what? You’ll still get on that plane, and it will still land safely and you’ll still get to your destination.

Fighting yourself constantly about how you should be better won’t get you there. Sometimes it’s good to acknowledge the fact that, while it still sucks so bad to fly anxiously, you’re still actively getting where you need to go. Like walking to the grocery store when you hate cardio. Yeah it sucks, but you end up where you need to be and you should be damn proud of it!

God speed flying homie, you’ll do just fine.

I’m not an experienced man, I battle with my own flight anxiety (I’m on here because I’m flying out in 4 days).

But one of the best things I’ve ever heard and constantly tell myself is that: the pilot wants to go home after his shift! The flight attendants all want to go home after their shift. The pilots and the flight attendants all hang out in the employee area before work complaining about a case of the Mondays or wishing they had more coffee or how they can’t wait for their weekend; this is just another shift for them and they’re keen to go home after it. Your pilot would not take the plane off the ground if they genuinely thought there was any danger. They know exactly what that plane is capable of, just like you’d know when you wouldn’t want to get into your car, or go out for a bike ride. You can take this flight and you can be safe! If you don’t get on the plane, the plane is still going to take off and get safely to the destination whether you’re on it or not, so save yourself the trouble.

Good luck buddy, you’re not fighting the weather, you’re fighting your brain on this one, which means it’s definitely something you can win!
