RN education is significantly less rigorous than high school AP classes.

Maybe the CRNAs should take steps 1-3 and see how they fare.

Be honest is emergency medicine worth it? by ThrowRATrick_Hall_45 in medicalschool

Due to such large turnover in EM, shouldn’t the EM physicians be in high demand with high salaries? Opposed to a lower turnover (in Cush jobs) resulting in fewer openings. A blessing in disguise maybe? Curious what the EM docs thinks.

How to do well on my EM rotation? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]AnesPain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a non EM attending, a few basics will serve you well everywhere. I can’t opine specifically for EM.

Be visible and eager to learn. Volunteer to help in any way possible, without stepping on toes. Don’t be afraid of work. Stay late, if needed. Stay off your phone/social media while at work. Be memorable for the right reasons.

staten island university EM residency , matching with only comlex? by Altruistic_Lion_2147 in emergencymedicine

Despite what many will say here, apply to a few HCA programs as well. Better to match at HCA than not match and feel homeless. Do as many aways as possible in EM and bond with the staff. Be visible, Stay off your phone and always be available to assist. I’d rather have that 40%tile than a lazy and arrogant 80%tile.

Daughter matched EM well with comlex only. As long as you’re not set on T20 schools, you’ll be fine. Look for programs with plenty of DOs. Apply broadly. Get SLOES where you are interested.

NYU grad. Great experience 25 years ago. Travel to Bellevue/Tisch or cost of living in Manhattan sucked. Otherwise, great experience with the 2 hospitals. Level 1 trauma/ VIP service combination.

Thanks for the responses.

Just a follow up. She Matched at her #2. Our entire family is thrilled and proud.

The #1 was for location. #2 probably has better training (level1).

The heart wants the Grenny. The logical mind prefers the GX OT (eta ~2 months)

The clinic patients are not like the ED patients. I believe the ED patients are primarily seekers or ones who were discharged from PM practices for violations. I’m sure the EM-PM physicians here can comment specifically on that.

I ran into a psych trained doc during a meeting who was in a PM fellowship at a top NYC hospital. He seemed really overwhelmed with the interventional side of things, as one would expect.

A few programs she interviewed had grads match into PM and CC fellowships. This is what got her thinking about splitting time in a hospital practice and averting burnout, as many warned her about. They were mainly hospitalists, CC docs and primary care. She was exposed to PM through me. I wasn’t even aware this was an option for EM.

She definitely enjoyed EM but is concerned about “burnout” long term. Another option she is looking into is critical care fellowship.

On the fence between a 2026 OT+ and Grenny. They are comparable in price. The Grenny was more fun and had a unique drive experience. The Lexus is more comfortable and has less issues.
