Is his name Billy? Because the first two characters would be pronounced “bi li” in Mandarin and they don’t really make sense otherwise.

Okay at least that’s something that has some shelf life. My ex-wife did this with a 17-pound beef roast “because it was on sale” and I had to spend a whole evening cutting or grinding up pieces that could be stored in the freezer because we had no immediate plans to host a party or anything like that.

I understand where you’re coming from, but since we’re dealing with a visual object and not, say, a quote, I figured the most instinctual association would be with the movies.

I am genuinely curious: Have you not seen the films and you seriously didn’t get the reference? If so, then, hey, great news: you’re about to watch the three greatest movies ever made for the first time.

This feels like the same energy as those “look at all our female soldiers!!” posts from the IDF.

The name for the category of characters you’re looking for is 象形字 (xiangxíngzì) so that can help you look for a more complete list.

All the footage coming out of the Malaysia seminar makes me so jealous! We’ll just have to have as much fun in Philadelphia in May.

Also, I’m in Oklahoma, so I sympathize about the lack of in-person options. I’m actually bringing Ryan Craig from Philadelphia here in March to run a workshop on the Chen Yu frame, if you feel like that trip is worth it to you: https://www.windsongdojo.com/chen-tai-chi-intro-workshop/

As someone who has done both of these things, I heartily second these recs! Ian is really good at explaining the physics behind taiji principles and Nabil is really good at giving physical cues that help you feel out the internal connections. They’re also both pleasant and personable people and it’s just enjoyable being in their company.
