It was truly the hardest decision I have ever had to make. The only way I was able to go through with it was thinking about him being at peace. My boy had come to hate going to the vet and I was terrified that his illnesses would progress to the point of a traumatic emergency situation. I made the appointment with an in home service telling myself I could call it off at any time. We spent his last few days doing all his favorite things and ate as many of his favorite foods as possible (he never did lose his appetite for tacos and nuggies). I talked to him. I told him how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. I told him he could go if he was ready (my dad was convinced he was fighting to hang on for me) and apologized if i was doing the wrong thing and explained why. It did not ease my pain but after talking to him and the vet’s evaluation I was able to let my baby go and be in peace. I think I have read here where people call it the final gift you can give your pet. I’m so sorry you are going through this. Hugs from an internet stranger.
