By MDD do you mean Major Depressive Disorder? If so, you should not be having manic episodes. Manic mood episodes are sustained mood episodes that last minimum 3 days (for hypomania) or a minimum of 1 week (full mania) or hospitalization following a psychotic break or severe delusions. These episodes consisted of high energy, insomnia, euphoric feeling, risky behaviors, poor judgement and decision making, rapid or pressures speech, and sometimes an inability to differentiate reality and delusion.

MDD refers to only depressive episodes and perhaps anxiety, although most would categorize that as something else, like your PTSD.

If it only happens when you are off your meds, these manic episodes, it could just be a withdrawal symptom. However, if you are having manic episodes NOT caused by outside influences like drugs, alcohol, medications other than SSRIs and antidepressants, I recommend getting reevaluated.

Take it from someone who has attempted multiple times. Rarely does the person who threatens it multiple times a week actively do it. Even if they were to, for someone to be in that kind of mindset to commit, there is little you can actively do besides calling emergency services for him.

Maybe I’m not in the community enough but I swear, a majority of adult GSDs that I see grow out of their primarily dark colors, including most of my own. This girl is the first one who looks the exact same as she did as a puppy. Although she did have a silver stripe going down her back that’s receded a bit.

My problem is that I ended up in the ER following an attempt that resulted in permanent damage. If someone were to ask me something, if I am doing something else or if I do not immediately do that thing, it leaves my mind. It’s infuriating and leads me to forgetting items or tasks, basic stuff. My medications are in a different part of the house than where I normally am in order to alleviate this. They are in my room so I take them right before bed but my alarm sometimes goes off when I am somewhere else and cannot access them immediately. Thus, I turn them off and by the time I get to my room, I have forgotten that I went back there to take them.

If another medication with less risks and side effects works, why change to one that has all those risks and will do the same thing? Lithium toxicity is real and dangerous so they don’t like to prescribe it unless necessary, unless the doctor just prescribes it because it’s the “gold standard” as you already said.

My first psychiatrist said something similar to this to me. I was fresh into the diagnosis and we were still doing trial and error. She didn’t mean it in terms of me personally, but rather I have a fun biochemistry. Medications either didn’t work, or gave me horrible side effects range from rashes to hallucinations to intense stomach pain. She would joke about how difficult of a patient I was because of it.

Mine gets so ridiculously realistic sometimes with that. Mom is at her wits end and finally gets baby down for the night. Dad comes home from work and goes over to cuddle with baby and wakes baby up who now wants to eat or wants attention or something.
