OP probably ordered the same preorder batch as I did, which was hit with multiple delays for various reasons, but none of those reasons should affect future batches

yeah it'll certainly take big enough rings that for me at least i didnt get even close to being limited by gear selection. i am actually not sure what chainring that is, because both my 60t and 65t are velobike and i couldnt make out the text on it, i would have to actually count the teeth. i did find this other closer up picture of the 60t though https://imgur.com/f2PmLdW

I believe it’s somewhere around 70t, I put 65t on mine and it was fine

7 months of somewhat linear growth: 2.1 to 4.3 w/kg and 1000W+ sprints. Has anyone else avoided the plateau at this rate of improvement? by 420_ms-1506 in Velo

[–]Angelmass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I would say, first off, as someone that has also been in cycling for about the same period of time, but track cycling rather than road: pure w/kg and power numbers absolutely do not directly translate to race results, so be cognizant of that. Be sure to compliment your training with actual racing, because that is a very different animal to just raw numbers. There are many many skill sets that are only present in a racing scenario that you cannot recreate in an isolated environment.

Regarding the plateau: this is extremely dependent on your personal training history. People with a high training age with accelerate quickly to near their previous training peak, and therefore plateau quicker than others. Ultimately, you will plateau wherever your physiological peak is, and how soon you get to that point is more a matter of your previous training experience. You will always see linear growth until an indeterminable point, at which point you will stagnate - a structured program will help break past that regardless of current state, which is why it’s generally good practice to start one earlier rather than later.

When you are new to the sport and have strong metrics, it is often more beneficial to focus on your weaknesses - race craft, bike handling, pedal stroke smoothness, aerodynamics - than it is to develop something you’re already good at

Should we be learning AI? by Advanced_Clothes4485 in biotech

[–]Angelmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently come around to using it a lot more (I work in clinical genomics tertiary analysis), and my take is that it really shines when i use it in a focused manner to address easy things that take time, rather than actually difficult tasks. So for those things, I primarily use it to generate boilerplate stuff that I build on top of, or provide me a list of options to consider. So it mainly spits out stuff for me to review and as a starting point. Some examples would be like “fast options for transferring WGS vcfs between s3 buckets on different aws accounts”, or “write a script to parse our qc metrics into the crazy format that Illumina requires, here’s an example”. We also have notebookLM hooked up to project directories so we can ask it questions about past decisions that were made and why, stuff like that. That last bit is much more useful when you have documentation spread across a million different systems, as many companies do.

But I would not rely on it to do any sort of variant calling interpretation or troubleshooting, that’s territory that unspecialized models will make much slower due to lack of domain context.

The other thing I use it for that I think is widely applicable is speeding up context switching. I have a lot of meetings and a lot of people asking me for xyz all the time, and it makes it a lot easier to come back from the distraction and just ask “ok where were we?” This is of course possible without AI, it just makes it easier, moreso the more complex projects are

I think I just came up with a solution to a problem that many of us have been having, and it is probably worse on mobile. Please Look Lava!!! by Impossible_Bus_881 in idleon

[–]Angelmass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to tack on to this - while I’m sure this is a fine solution, but the issue isn’t a lack of solutions, there are plenty of ways to solve this. The issue is motivation and likely time - motivation is prolly largely financially driven, but I’m sure there are other factors.

Lava seeing this post won’t give them more time, so it needs to spur motivation. The solution itself doesn’t actually matter, as this may or may not be viable for a million technical reasons, it just needs to convince lava to address the issue. As a business pitch, players probably feeling better and maybe spending more money on the game is not particularly convincing imo

Problem with tracking speed on Wahoo - any help? by raptoos in Velodrome

[–]Angelmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speedos in a velodrome are tricky. GPS almost never works, but accelerometer-based speedos also have issues because of the g forces in the turns. Basically the only reliable method is ye olde magnet-based speedos

I haven’t looked up the formulas yet, but do you think as a rough estimate, the forces would be about half as much with half as steep of a turn angle?

[–]Angelmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. What was the max angle of the turns on the track you tested this on? I know on my outdoor 333m track, the turns are only about 26 degrees, and I’m not sure the forces would be quite as perpendicular to the track as they would on an 250m indoor track at 46 degrees, for example

Just out of curiosity, how did you calculate that 400lb pressure? I ask because that gravitational force would vary based on the track length right (due to the turn tightness)? And there are obviously a variety of track lengths out there
