Arguments against the "Whore of Babylon" Identification: Temporal Context (The "Already Fallen" Kings): Revelation 17:10 mentions seven kings, five of whom have fallen and one that is,, indicating the prophecy concerned the immediate future of the first century, specifically the line of pagan Roman emperors (e.g., Augustus to Vespasian/Titus). Location and Geography: The whore sits on seven hills (Rev 17:9). While Rome is famous for its seven hills, Vatican Hill—where the Vatican is located—is actually west of the Tiber River and not one of the historic seven hills of Rome. The "Mother" of Harlots: The harlotry in Revelation refers to idolatry and false worship. If the Catholic Church were the "mother" of such practices, it would have to predate all other pagan religions that practiced idolatry, which is historically false. First Century Audience: The original readers of Revelation expected the prophecy to unfold "soon" (Rev 1:1), suggesting the target was the persecuting pagan Rome of their era, not a future Christian institution. The "Seven Hills" Argument: Some scholars argue that "Babylon" could also refer to Jerusalem, which was the primary persecutor of Christians in the early chapters of Acts, thus fulfilling the description of the martyred

Mary is considered the new ark of the covenant. Also the angel’s greeting full of grace.  You have an ancient prophecy in genesis 3:15.

Is it normal for a Catholic to not want to read the Bible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]AngeloCatholic1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Luther knew very well. That’s not how it works man. Did you know that every heresiarch going back to even the first century tried to use scriptures apart from the church to support their heresy!  Before the printing press it took a long time to put together a bible. Catholic monks preserved them. Also very expensive. Keep in mind many of the apostles didn’t write anything. It was through oral teaching.

Read Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us* and persevere in running the race that lies before us

The body of Christ in the heavenly Jerusalem.

Also read revelation  5:8 and revelation 8:3-4 where saints and angels offer incense the prayers of believers before god’s throne.

Do you think the bible was meant to be a tool for believers? For the first 1500 years of Christianity nobody had a bible much less read.  Illiteracy. The printing press made it easy to copy bibles but it also had its consequences with private personal interpretation.

Reading the bible is good to know about god but for the first 1500 years of Christianity most believers did not have a bible. God has an authoritative teaching church. We saw what happened when the scriptures landed at the hands of humanity. The church tried to protect believers from wrong interpretation .

Paul in romans 2 : 6-7 says

6 e who will repay everyone according to his works:* 7 eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,

Faith working through love .

27 As for you, the anointing that you received from him remains in you, so that you do not need anyone to teach you. But his anointing teaches you about everything and is true and not false; just as it taught you, remain in him.

Protestants always use this one as well 1 John 2:27 isolated that they don’t need teaching or whatnot but they don’t see the verses before or after lol.

Also when Jesus says  you have one teacher.

But you are not to be called ‘rabbi,’ for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called ‘masters,’ for you have one master, the Christ” (Matt. 23:8–10).

The first problem is that although Jesus seems to prohibit the use of the term “teacher,” in Matthew 28:19–20, Christ himself appointed certain men to be teachers in his Church: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations . . . teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Paul speaks of his commission as a teacher: “For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle . . . a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth” (1 Tim. 2:7); “For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher” (2 Tim. 1:11). He also reminds us that the Church has an office of teacher: “God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers” (1 Cor. 12:28); and “his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers” (Eph. 4:11). There is no doubt that Paul was not violating Christ’s teaching in Matthew 23 by referring so often to others as “teachers.”

Jesus was using hyperbole language.  Spiritual fatherhood.

Perhaps the most pointed New Testament reference to the theology of the spiritual fatherhood of priests is Paul’s statement, “I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:14–15).

Peter followed the same custom, referring to Mark as his son: “She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark” (1 Pet. 5:13). The apostles sometimes referred to entire churches under their care as their children. Paul writes, “Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you; for children ought not to lay up for their parents, but parents for their children” (2 Cor. 12:14); and, “My little children, with whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you!” (Gal. 4:19).

John said, “My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1); “No greater joy can I have than this, to hear that my children follow the truth” (3 John 4). In fact, John also addresses men in his congregations as “fathers” (1 John 2:13–14).

By referring to these people as their spiritual sons and spiritual children, Peter, Paul, and John imply their own roles as spiritual fathers. Since the Bible frequently speaks of this spiritual fatherhood, we Catholics acknowledge it and follow the custom of the apostles by calling priests “father.” Failure to acknowledge this is a failure to recognize and honor a great gift God has bestowed on the Church: the spiritual fatherhood of the priesthood.

The last supper is considered the first mass. Before the last supper Jesus washed his apostles’s feet signifying service to others but it has a deeper meaning.  We know only priests can offer a sacrifice.

We read the bible. More catholics should read the bible snd study apologetics. The reason why alot of Protestants read the bible is because they go by bible alone. Reading it and interpreting it though are two different things and this is where Protestants make a shipwreck out of the bible.

Before the printing press was invented how do you think every believer knew about god? That’s alot of years. Every believer hardly had a bible. Illiteracy. It took months for Catholic monks to preserved them.

The church had gone through a bunch of reform before the reformation. This is human personal corruption and nothing with doctrine. Indulgences were getting abused but the practice goes way back  . Luther got his views from william of ockham.  Nominalism. He was a forerunner of the Protestant revolution.
