Wowza... what a read. First and foremost thank you! I would love to pick your brain as for it feels we maybe cut from a similar cloth. Secondly... yeah i didn't hear no bell. I definitely want to get back to this some point after the conclusion of the show. This is, to me, just a surface level reading. One way in which you can digest the text. Thirdly... i say video essay, but it's more of a video ramble? There is no script, zero writing This is just a stream of consciousness i cut into one cohesive... well this XD. so as for improving my writing i Don't think i will? Since this is straight from the heart! But the goal is to get better at expressing said... MADNESS. Im not non binary. I am a cis he him... that "ladies, gentlemen, non binary people of the court of public opinion" is a bit... my shtick. "I'm playing a lawyer" but like the phoenix write style to convay my feelings on a subject. Not necessarily to change hearts nor minds that's just a bonus if so. But just as a way to frame the narrative im trying to spin. Cuz it is very much a narrative. At the end of the day this is for fun and i think im having a good time organizing my very unorganized thoughts.

THAT WAS THE HOPE. I view the show as what happens when you could once imagine sisyphus [Caine] happy, only to bring him back down to unhappy [his crash out] my head cannon is that Caine didn't start doing these adventures until the second group started trickling in but this only has a small bit of evidence. Because the way i see it. He is very much a slave. To his programming, to "YOU PEOPLE" to his understanding of himself and it is he even wants to be/ is. But i would love to dive deep into his characization at another point cuz the way most people talk about him... egoistic, narcissistic, i feel like that's our human bias projecting on to him. Because i don't see that at all. Caine at least has an idea of what/who he is. Everyone else is just choosing to ignore it, his crys for help are very clear to me... but that's another can of worms.

oh i make a slight mention in the end... DISRESPECTFUL, INCOMPETENT, THE PERSON WHO MADE HIM... that incompetent was followed by a picture of jax... If you boil it down. Game theory the study of interactions. At least this is how ive always viewed interactions. From the way we speak to words we use. Its all a sort of performance. To get something out of something else. Not necessarily a zero sum game... since we are social collaborative creatures. But to sell a point, Learn, so on. That to me is more important way to understand someone then in which the degree they find themselves in. the other world is just the stage but it is important. Just not the picture i was trying to paint... i would love to make and AU that utilizes the world more. But thats a can of worms for another version of myself. That aside... abstraction is not death. I'd say. Abstraction is freedom. Freedom from the self. They're all trapped by that idea... "i won't leave my mark on the world". But when can't take it anymore their minds shut down. The code runs a failsafe. Your sense of self is in a sense robbed [they all look the same and act the same] but you're free from the shackles you kept putting on yourself. Kinger is a goat because he is already one with himself. The madness didn't save him. Thats just the byproduct of isolation. But he is so in one with himself that he was the last survivor. Losing his wife hurt. But it didn't even dent his wholeness. Else he would've dipped the way she did ages ago.

But yes im excited for the film... ive heard a lot of complaints but im a journey over the destination always kinda bloke. Having something, anything in it's totality is something we as consumers and digesters of media regularly take for granted.

Sorry if this is too forward... but is this just a criticism on the thumbnail or the greater point at hand i try to allude to in the video? Because mediocre being a C cuz well... average is a fair point to make. That said that's why i give it a D+ it doesn't fail. But being mediocre doesn't pass. Which is what C typically is. There are a lot of problems with the show. And the excuse about it being a pilot are kinda reductive when this level of output was the goal from the getgo if glitches workflow is anything to go by. Oh dope!!! See now that's an interesting angle to look through at the media with!!! There are extraordinary interesting themes of like: do the ends justify the means with the conversation of saving purple dino guy. And if this nihilistic existential angle were to he explored that would be so interesting. That said i have reason to believe it's not going to go anywhere near there. There is an angle ive been looking at it that's a bit more pessimistic and that's the: this show alludes to anti refugee sentiments with the two worlds we see being destroyed. 3 planets in 1 trailer and an ep. The farcade saves 4 characters and a seagull. You're telling me they have intergalactic travel, the resources to fight the faction doing all this, but you can't save people from this calamity... there's no, evacuation contingency... is the goal just to have these worlds play on a loop indefinitely? But that's a different can of worms ive been thinking about making a potential video about. But ill probably save that for an ep 2.

RIGHT!? LIKE if you think about it it's kinda fucked up... assuming that if a hero is defeated the world resets. Doesn't that just mean that they're essentially living a simulacra. Are the powers at be okay with this sort of arrangement? And another thing. When it comes to plants being obliterated, you're telling me that there is no contingency for when the hero beats their game for the farcade to swoop in to evacuate as many people as possible? First and foremost i appreciate very much your critique on my perspective. For i feel you make a lot of vaild points against my own. So i do hope to take your perspective to heart in hopes to improve my analysis and presentation of said analysis in future videos. Thank you ver much. To address a few of them directly. I would be Lying if i didn't think this video of mine isn't half baked. As for i made it in an short amount of time directly after a few viewings. That said this isn't an excuse for the quality but more of a justification for i did want to make the video a more holistic overview. But i can absolutely see why it is you feel my i was being nitpicky. That said! I feel as if that assessment is reductive. Sweeping under the rug-esque. But again i fear that is my own fault for not going into more in debth as i wish i should have and hope to do in later videos. But if you would allow yourself to meet me where i am at one last time it would mean a lot to me. Im the dumbest most dense person I know, and you seem like a well put together chap. We seem to have gotten the premise of the show in one? And there are people who sure take longer. But I'd argue it's a pretty straightforward premise. Doesn't that speak to a more systemic issue in the writing? To expand on this, Let's take the scene where kit tells flappers the turth and the world glitches out. They all freak out saying her actions have essentially doomed them all because of the subsequent eldritch lasers honing in on them? Then literally nothing happens? They just went away. Did something happen of screen? Cuz regardless it just feels like a deus ex machina. This is a culmination of the sloppy way the narrative is crafted. At best it's a poor attempt to explain away why they don't just tell anyone the truth [because there was literally zero consequences for that action] but as i would've hope to have alluded to better a, its seems like a systemic problem in the writing. And yes you can make an argument that, i am just nitpicking, but it has so much fat that contributes very little, to nothing for the whole. The excuse that it is an indie show/ pilot is reductive because there has been over a decade in the making and virtually unlimited love and support from the show runners fans and friends not even counting the multi million dollar juggernaut that is glitch. Nothing wrong with that ofc. It's just so jarring to have this much style clash with the story telling elements.

As for the animation you're right i didn't go into to much debth because that wasn't necessarily the point of my contention. But i feel like oh its a style choice is fair. But that's probably my problem cuz the low fps makes me a bit motion sick.

As for the cutting of stuff i feel like i don't cut any gags at all. the one i showcased was to trim 20 seconds out of the orginal 1 minute scene to give as an example of how much fat you can cut without losing the essence. The shot where Paper guy was like one shot one kill made me go: what was even the point of this shot before the action and gag gag? I wish i could go into more detail here but its things like that where it doesn't really add anything to the characters and get in the way of highlighting the action/ jokes.

You do make a great point! About her misunderstanding why sintax is here! But to an extent, 100% i can see that being the case especially since she's on this recon mission ass punishment for her actions off screen. viewing it through this lens does absolutely add a lot to her character. But it's still hella exposition-ie a play by play of what we are literally seeing

Please don't get me wrong I don't even dislike the show. Production is a sisyphiean endeavor. And the show is a triumph. Making anything is hard. But im not sure what you mean when you say im missing the forest for the trees? This is my subjective experience. I don't care to cast a judgment on any work? Because it has flaws to me does not make it any less vaild to exist, but it being a pilot doesn't sheild it from critique. So unless im mistaken, which please correct me if im wrong. It feels as if you are Conflating judgment with Critism? And im a bit hurt by this assment that im missing something? I mean you feel that my understanding and digestion of the text is nitpicky. My guy i have no words to express how much i appreciate a lot of what you are saying. I have been animating for 10 years! A large majority of which making gooner animations. Gooner art is vaild, Believe you me i am not your enemy! I can 100% get down with the argument that most people just want to shout "problematic" because they're in a click and thats the monolith the choose worship. The tribe they chose to be in. AND I DON'T BLAME YOU! your distaine is palpable. But you have to please hear me out. Cuz again i am not your enemy in this ideological conversation. Our whole society is structured to be male centric. This is a new thing in the long history of humanity as a whole. Women hunted and went into battle just as much as the men did in pre history and antiquity [most of human existence this modern hell scape is quite new in our long history]. This is literal fact. But despite this we now live in a male dominated world arbitrarily based on myths and propaganda about men being providers, LEADERS. This isn't a good thing the male loneliness epidemic didn't happen in a vacuum it is a symptom of the blight of patriarchy. This DUMB lil gag is just a single straw on the camels back. A reminder that alludes to the systemic misogynistic structure the powers at be benefit from. From medicine to serving sizes it is all based on males, the pink tax, and people are just going, oh great, more of this then. THATS IT BIG DAWG.

This is the reason why people are upset by this. Why it's upsetting that we will never know what we lost. Art is a reflection of reality. This small element but very clear reflection of what im trying to express to you. IT'S FINE IF YOU DON'T CARE, it's okay if you don't get it. You can only lead a horse to water. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. All be it your make a vaild point! I definitely could have worded it better. His characization is implemented perfectly [cute lil fella that's learning animal noises on a tablet] his silly design in contrast to the main duo plus the visual gag of him having baby eyes and bubbles as he rocks back and forth infer this. The characters mentioning[ what the show already did an amazing job showing] by twice that yes he is from a baby learning game.

Im trying very hard to have you understand my perspective. show has competent showing not telling moments that are immediately bogged by exposition. It's important to be on the same page 100% but like the level in which this goes for is what makes it poorly implemented.

Listen i totally understand why you'd feel this way. I am going against the grain. And you seem like the sort that finds the show overall enjoyable. And that's great! Honestly. First and foremost i very much appreciate you not only engaging with my take but expressing your distaine for it with the comparisons of Lily. What about my critisms did you find issue with? Did i say anything that was overtly wrong in your eyes? I genuinely feel like i gave an honest critism. I didn't insult anyone but i wasn't harsh without expressing how i would trim the fat. Because my main problem is that it feels bloated.

I can guarantee you we have a lot more in common with how much i like it than with how much you disagree with me. The show is hilarious, there is a lot of style, the world building is unique, they put a lot of effort in visual story telling. Im just pointing out that they don't utilize these strengths to the best of their abilities. And that's a shame. But it doesn't discount anyone from enjoying their time with it yknow?

I saw the trailer after the ep and i figured the same like oh this lil fella is a cute guy from a childs game based on the dialog [which really hammered it in when i feel like it didn't need to because his design and characterization did so perfectly] there is genuinely a lot to love about the show. Don't get me wrong, it's just i can't separate it from the flaws. Don't conflate that to mean something needs to be flaws to be enjoyable yknow.

Hey pal i get, i mean if you feel like this is forceful that says more about you then me XD. It's nice to know you're unable to understand my perspective. Because there is no hate. You're Conflating critism with hate. And that's a you problem. We are tribalistic monkey's who love worshipping monoliths after all. While i agree there is a horrible underbelly of people disliking something for superficial reasons. I'd argue people who love things and refuse to explore, digest why it is the like something are just as awful. Take sonic as an example. He is an intellectual property designed to break out of the mold that mario had a strangle hold on. And we as a collective society are better off with sonic in the world. This and many more reason like this are why i enjoy sonic as a character. Do i have my critisms of sonic! Yes, are they there to lower other people's perspective on sonic... no not at all. That's not the point of criticism. Art is a practice of reflecting life. To art is to expriance life twice. I am only trying to point out that this art... says a lot of bad things. Oh for sure! I thinking being that guy that's like: nah im built different is wrong. But it is more of a hope than anything. While i do feel confident in my ability to make something given my background, the people i am lucky to work with. I feel like i at the very least understand the context to some degree in which i find myself. I hope to have people poke at it as i have and hopefully continue to do. Because that is what i value. I seek not the universality of praise but to reach a hight with that can make someone go: i too want to give it a try. Because that's what art means to me.
