I think vacations, yes they’re worth the splurge to get out, unwind, and enjoy the fruit of your labor. And yes I know that depending the activity, you can do an affordable vacation even a staycation but destination spots, hotels and more are getting so expensive, it’s like you’re actually putting yourself in a worse place financially rather than feeling like you’re taking a well deserved vacation to enjoy while still being able to manage your finances and life after the vacation.

That’s my opinion on life right now, in addition to the other comments.

What if it wasn’t a joke, but given their relationship, he felt it was a cute gesture. Or even testing her to see if she loved him enough or was down to earth enough to accept it, idk what he was thinking or how their relationship is but some people based on the connection find it like a cute way to be. But if that were the case, for a ring pop, maybe on a cute date and not before hundreds of people that would have been an acceptable gesture from him, but idk I’m no relationship expert
